Good luck to all involved with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as it opens Thurs. April 28. Bway grosses could use a shot in the arm from a big, feel-good, tuneful musical that is geared for the entire family!

I'm so nervous for them. I haven't been this nervous for a show in... well, a long time.
I have this feeling it's going to get panned by the critics, because it's not ground-breaking theatre. I don't think that's going to hurt its success at all, but I hope they do well tomorrow night. And, if nothing else, that the critics are at least gentle on that lovely man who drives the car. Raúl, kick ass tomorrow night. (or tonight, since it's press night anyway.) My fingers and toes are crossed for you. Be amazing, you beautiful bundle of talent.
I'll be refreshing the NY Times website for the next 24 hours, without fail.
Break a leg, CHITTY! I love you!

Em, that picture is great! I've never been so frightened by, yet so drawn to a picture all at the same time.

LOL... Break a leg to the rest of the cast. Here's hoping the show "flies" with the critics.

This is being posted BEFORE any Chitty reviews are out. I would not waste my time with reading the review of any show in the NY Times. We are almost never surprised and, in almost every case, predict what will be written by the Times critic(wont mention the B word). Most of the long running hits now on Bway did not need or receive a favorable Times review. I usually look at AP, Bway World, Bway.com, Variety, Reuters, NY Post, Times, News, Wall Street Journal, TV and radio reviews and the opinions expressed in our postings right here. A mix of those sources are, in most cases, fairly accurate. Enjoy Chitty and all the other fine shows on Bway!!!

For reviews, my best hopes are with Mr. Barnes, a nice British gentleman who isn't afraid to be nice to a show that he enjoys- even if it means losing some of that "edge" a lot of critics try and maintain. He seems to be a lot less vicious these days, especially with anything British. If you want to read a show getting panned, you can always rely on John Simon and (increasingly so) Howard Kissel to spill some venom wherever there's a chance for it. It's good to have a niche.
Anyway, regardless of the critics, I'm excited for a lovely opening night full of tipsy stars and virtually free of loud children. I know the cast will do a wonderful job tonight, they're nothing if not focused. Now, since I'm awake at 8:30 AM, time to get a new shirt, a haircut, and a steam facial if I have any chance of landing my elusive "Mrs. Robinson" once and for all

bumpity bump.
I have to start compulsively checking for reviews. Lou, the only reason I'm looking for the Times review is because in the past, Brantley has been pretty kind to Raúl. I kind of want to see what he has to say about him this time around. Or then again, maybe I don't.
fly, Chitty!!
