Clark's Tears in PIAZZA?

I went to see Piazza today. It was absolutely magnificent and Victoria Clark's performance in particular was incredibly moving.
I was in the front row, and was able to see that many times throughout the show she had tears streaking her face. Now, as it is a moving piece, I understand her getting caught up in the character's emotions.
The thing that struck me as odd was that she had tears running down her cheeks before the show even started. Has anyone else noticed this?

The show is called "The Light in the Piazza".
There is a lot of heavy lighting on them since most of the show takes place outside.
It's called sweat.

Am I the only one who saw the title to this thread and was afraid it was going to link to an Ebay auction? Just me?

Posted: 7/7/05 at 6:29amIt makes complete sense to me that she would have tears in her eyes at the top of the show. First off, - she is so engrossed in the portrayal of Margaret, perhaps Margaret is teary-eyed at being back in the city where she took her honeymoon trip with her husband. Or, perhaps the first strains of the overture just move Victoria to tears, they way they did me when I saw the show. There can be many possible explanations for her tears. I don't find it surprising in the least, because Victoria is one of the finest actresses of our time.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 12:16pmghostlight - it makes me want to work with her some day. I've rarely, if ever, seen anyone get so engrossed in their character that it seems so natural. As I've stated in myriad other posts - Victoria Clark is my new Hero and role model.

I'll hop on the VIctoria bandwagon. Also, at the beginning of the story, there's a parallel running that Margaret is both at the beginning of the story and already relating the story as a past event to the audience. You could even take that moment as being right after the
*spoiler alert*
wedding which ends the musical. This is all evidenced by her lines, "what happened here? Well, let's see..."

Posted: 7/7/05 at 1:43pmthat's part of the reason the wedding isn't lit well... you know who is there, but can you really see who it is? and yet vicky is detached... detached from her own wedding??? her own marriage?

Posted: 7/16/05 at 8:06pmMaybe she was actually upset. Actors and actresses have real lives outside of their character.
#19re: Clark's Tears in PIAZZA?
Posted: 7/16/05 at 8:54pmIt could be anything. She could've just been tht moved by the overture, it could've been the lighting, or maybe she was upset by something that happened outside of the show.
