Congrats Disney! You have officially mucked up the best thing you had going for you!
First, my BRIEF comments on Tarzan.. Good show, in need of the usual preview tightening of course, but I was pleasantly suprised. Not kiddie shows at all.... ACTUAL FAMILY entertainment. Ther parents can enjoy it on their own, as can the kids. Smart design.. except for those sightelines.. Bob Crowley, I thought you were smarter than that! Only true dissapointment in teh show was Shuler Hensley. Officially the male Kristen Chenoweth.. same character, different dress.
Now, Disney doesn't do a lotto/student rush for BATB OR LK. I find Schumaker's statement exteremely empty. If he were concerned withs tudents seeing his show, then his other two shows would have the same ploicy.. they do not.
Now, the only efficient fix to tarzan's sightline problem is to close booking for the show at the current end date and move to another theatre. Any theatre would have better suited sightlines. Why Crowley wanted this one, I don't know. Now, are they limited to nederlander houses?? maybe. If so.. well.. a few things can be done. Want a similar size house? okay Disney, fot the bill and switch houses with hairspray. You will more than recoup. Even better, your show is booking well enough, move to a bigger house. The Palace will be open soon! Go there!
Now, onto their rush policy. Any producer would KILL for what they had. Just off Times Sq.... HUGE crowd.. blocking traffic.. man with a megaphone drawing more attention.. "hey, what's going on?" "lottery for Tarzan tickets.. it's sold out.. the only way to get in"... a crwod of all ages and types trying to see it... the crowd saize compared to the size of the house made that lotto the busiest and most successful on Broadway really....
Now this policy? A line of sniffling Teenages sitting on a sidewalk for hours on end for first come first serve? Even RENT, which targets that audience, got sick of that...........
If the goal is to move some partial view seats to front row, that won't work. 20 seats? that's less than one row of partial view... many ticked off people to contend with.. in THIS case, doubly so!
SHAME SHAME TOM SCHUMAKER. Not quite as smart as I thought you were!

Christ amighty, the entitlement thing is still going strong, I see.
God knows, it's been long enough since you left that most people here don't remember why you put yourself in exile, but there are those who do.
And aren't a lot of the ones the same ones you don't want to alienate or have you given up the dream of being an actor since the whole other "incident?"

Nothing happened. The Nederlander Company owns a selection of theaters in NYC and there is a theater named the Nederlander. Rent is still playing.

It involved a sock puppet and a musical and the yanking off of said sock puppet to reveal a person whose sig file indicated he would be the perfect male igenue in said musical. And the sock puppet was yanked off by a co-creator of said musical.
It was delisssshhhhhh!

First of all...expound is made up? That's too good! Someone didn't pay attention in their SAT prep sessions!
Secondly...I DO NOT remember this AT ALL, Namo!
Maybe it's cause I'm fuzzy since I haven't blown my nose in a week...but I honestly don't remember.

"honey",
the only one who knows why i don't post on this board is ME.. and believe me, those reasons have nothing to do with one show more than another..

Posted: 4/5/06 at 4:34pmEnlighten me then. I could have sworn it was about you creating a new identity and bitching out the creatives at Hairspray for making some cuts here and there for budgetary reasons. And you being all stearn and preachy (like in the first post in this thread) about artistic integrity and not being "smart." (Oh, that charge holds more water when you DON'T misspell 20% of the words in your schoolmarmish posts).

Okay. Maybe I'm slow on the uptake, but even after reading the original post three times, I'm still not sure what the problem is. I gather it has something to do with their rush policy which seems to be this, but I still can't define what point he is trying to make. Is the problem that it's not STUDENT rush? Or that the rush seats are lousy? Someone. Anyone. Explain with clarity, please.
Tarzan
RUSH Two and a half hours prior to each performance, guests are invited to fill out a lottery card at the theatre to enter the drawing for a limited number of $20 tickets. Lottery tickets are located in the first row of the orchestra. Winners will be drawn two hours prior to the curtain time for each performance. There will be a limit of 2 tickets per person and tickets may be purchased using cash only. Winners must be present with identification at the time of the drawing to purchase their tickets.

I have no idea what your complaint is. From what I can assume, you don't like the sight lines of the theatre, and you were mad not everyone could get tickets.
Point #1
I can almost guarantee that something will be done if you can in fact see the actors in the wings. Rest assured, it's Broadway, so they're not going to go up opening night with Tarzan and whatever else in full view offstage.
Point #2
Shows can't just 'switch houses.' Sorry, it's not that easy. The amount of ticket sales and back-up booking they'd lose would be ridiculous (both theatres of whichever show it fits with). I'm not sure about other theatres, but Wicked's and Spamalot's are completely renovated for their respective shows. It doesn't take a couple days to move theatres. You don't just 'switch.' EVERYTHING changes.
Point #3
It's in its first week or two of previews, buddy. So you weren't able to get tickets through rush? Or your friend wasn't? Whatever the matter is, I don't think a bad rush policy (if that's even what it is) is "Disney's biggest !#&(@)*#&? blunder." Sort out your priorities.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the rest of Broadway. Go check out Rent. I heard in Act One, Scene 8, someone accidentally saw a shoelace become untied as Roger stood up to sing. The Nederlander's biggest blunder, no doubt?

To paraphrase Jon Stewart, the facts seem to have a strong anti-Broadwayguy2 agenda.

You can't just SWITCH houses with Hairspray.
It doesn't work like that.
