Ars Nova presents DIXIE'S TUPPERWARE PARTY, directed by Obie-Award winning Alex Timbers (Gutenberg! The Musical!) and written by Kris Andersson and critically-acclaimed downtown playwright Elizabeth Meriwether. The show begins previews on Wednesday, April 18 and officially opens on Thursday, May 10 at Ars Nova (511 W. 54th Street).
"Dixie Longate, the fast-talking Tupperware Lady, has packed up her catalogues, and left her children in an Alabama trailer park to journey to The Big Apple. Join Dixie as she throws a good ol'fashioned Tupperware Party filled with outrageous tales, free giveaways, and the most fabulous assortment of Tupperware ever sold on a New York stage. See for yourself how Ms. Longate became the number one Tupperware seller in the world, as she educates her guests on the many alternative uses she has discovered for her plastic products!," state Ars Nova notes.

Posted: 3/17/07 at 12:50amFriends of mine out in CA have attended several actual Tupperware parties hosted by Dixie Longate. She's apparently very funny and does end up selling a lot of Tupperware. Go figure.

Posted: 3/17/07 at 5:27pmI saw them both during their earlier off-off-Broadway incarnations and they are both hysterically funny. Not for everyone, but if you enjoy a good laugh and a "shallow" night at the theater, you'll be roaring!

I've seen readings of two of Meriwether's plays. She's very talented. This should be good as well.

Has anyone seen this?
Is it worth the trek up to Ars Nova only to wait outside until a minute before showtime when they decide to open the door and pile everyone into a tight hallway leading to the unassigned seats many of which have "Reserved" place holders on them?
Anyone?

Heh... your description of the Ars Nova experience is spot on! So annoying. Bleh.
That being said, I think Dixie's show is worth it. I went on the first night of previews and had a great time. Like steve said, it's definitely not for everyone... but, I laughed a lot... AND bought $50 worth of Tupperware.
Be prepared to potentially be put on the spot, though... she finds time to tease/pick on a lot of people through the course of the show. At least I got a keychain for my pain.
