Classic Stage Company announced its line-up for next season, which will include:
-THE SEAGULL, starring Dianne Wiest as Mme. Arkadina
-RICHARD III with Michael Cumpsty
-NEW JERUSALEM, a new play by David Ives, directed by Walter Bobbie.
Some friends of mine saw Wiest in the reading of THE SEAGULL back in January and said she was wonderful. Sounds like a solid season.

I've seen Wiest several times on stage over the years and she should be a first rate Arkadina. And good for Cumpsty getting a chance to make his way role by role through the entire Shakespearean canon.
Love her !!!!!!! (Can we get some "Birdcage" love??!!!)
Saw her a few weeks ago outside of The AMNH, walking her dogs-
Such a sweet woman !!
THE SEAGULL is probably my favorite Chekhov along with IVANOV, I'm quite sad I missed the Meryl Streep-led production hopefully I'll get to see this other production that seems quite promising as well. Wiest is a great actress, ever since I saw her in BULLETS OVER BROADWAY I cannot get enough of her.

So is the West End one not transfering or is this that one?

I just recently read THE SEAGULL and completely fell in love with that play. I can't wait to see a production.
Save yer money and go see the possible Broadway transfer with Kristin Scott Thomas!!!
I saw Wiest years ago in IN THE SUMMER HOUSE. She's not as effective onstage as on film.

Love Dianne Wiest but I've never seen her in a stage production.
Her performance in Third two years ago was fantastic.
Well, I was ON stage with her at Arena Stage in the 70s, and she was consistently brilliant. In a small role in ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE she was remarkably focused, and kept working, despite being harranged by Zelda Fichandler (brilliant theatre manager, too cerebral director) Her Arkadina might well have a soupcon of her BULLETS character, no? They are distant cousins, narcissistic actors d'un age certain. Can't wait. Weith SEAGULL, like all of Chekhov, it's all about the quality of the translation, and the commitment to the comedy. The Paul Schmidt translation is my favorite.
Wiest is divine. I would love to see her do anything.
