Does anyone realize that while playing the Wicked Witch of the West, Margaret Hamilton got hurt from a trap door while filming the Wizard of Oz? The same thing happaned to our beloved Wicked Witch, Idina Menzel. Eerie.
and I suppose the fact that nothing happened to Roseanne, Eartha Kitt or Joanne Worley means nothing to you... not to mention the maybe thousands of actresses who have played the role in professional and non equity productions all over the world... just Margaret and Idina, huh? two out of thousands... yeah... that's eerie all right... Uhhhhh, calm down. It's not that big of a deal. I wasn't saying they were better or worse then any of the other "Wicked Witches." Plus, who's to say all those other characters had trap doors to exit the stage through?
Then again, didn't Margaret Hamilton get hurt by EVERYTHING while filming that movie?
I am calm. I'm just syin' it's not that eerie... it's just two people. and yes, most of those actresses did melt via a trap door. Roseanne, Eartha and Joanne for sure...
Well I see the connection, and yes I think it's eerie..and I don't know why catsNY is being a jerk..but I just joined and it seems like a lot of people on this board are like that. by the way, the connection is eerie because idina and margaret are arguably the most popular. now i'll just wait for another rude comment and see a crude comeback..who dares to do so first?
There is no eerie connection...
Margaret Hamilton was not injured by the trap door - she was burned by a premature fire explosion.
Margaret Hamilton experienced some very severe injuries during the Munchkinland scene when it was time for The Wicked Witch of the West to disappear. Basically what happened was during the fourth shoot of this scene, the smoke and flames came too quickly causing her hat and broomstraw to catch fire. As a result, Margaret Hamilton suffered several burns about the face and a very bad burn to her hand. This was made even worse by the fact that she was wearing green makeup which contained copper oxide. On December 23, 1938, Margaret Hamilton left the studio and didn't return for six weeks.
If it weren't enough that Margaret Hamilton experienced injuries while filming The Wizard of Oz, her stunt double, Betty Danko also had a similar experience during the broomstick riding scene. In order to get the effect of smoke coming out of the broomstraws, a pipe was used to achieve this result. However, during Betty Danko's filming, this pipe exploded blowing her off the broomstick. She received a very bad bruise on her leg as well as a very bad cut. This landed her in the hospital for eleven days. Eileen Goodwin was brought in to complete the broomstick riding scene.

I agree and think it is kind of eerie. I also agree that some people are being somewhat rude about their opinion (cough *catsNYrevival* cough). It is simply their opinion and thats why these message boards get out of hand sometimes. I also think it was clever of Ebonic_Singer to make that connection.

Margaret Hamilton was burned during the movie, and my friend and I were burned two hundred smackers plus service charge by the musical. Eerie.

well, margaret was burned because the trap door didn't open....
and as Idina and Margaret are the two most famous....
BUT I think there are enough of these idina/trap door threads...
What happened is very bad - but we don't need a thousand threads...especially ones like this - where this topis has been discussed in the others....
