Not with Ms Peters anyway.

She has announced post Follies tour dates around the USA.

Very odd... I thought she was game on star in Follies in the hoped for transfer or even London next year...

She's pissed at Sondheim for stopping the Streisand GYPSY.

Bernadette Peters as Dainy June opposite Barbra Streisand as Rose might be one of the great missed opportunities of all time.

I don't think the plan was ever for FOLLIES to directly transfer to Broadway from the Kennedy Center. IF the production works - IF they can raise the money - it might transfer at some point, but that wasn't going to be this season anyway.

And if it trasferred Peters would likely just reschedule her concert dates - she's done it before. Its not that big a deal.

Michael Bennett-that was exactly what I was going to say. If she did transfer, she'd rebook the dates. I had a ticket to something in FL she rescheduled (couldn't go so I had to get a refund, but still, it can be done).

Exactly. If the production transfers it is not going to be right after the Kennedy Center production closes. It is going to take time to book a theatre and all that stuff. They would not open this season anyways so she still has time to tour.

^ If it does transfer, it will likely be next season (2011-2012). And that's when many of the tour dates are. I'm sure it will all work out anyway.

I am sure they would like to transfer but are waiting to see how the cast does, how it sells, and how the critics like it. And probably also hoping that a producer will pick it up. They were very lucky with RAGTIME but I'm sure they realize that not all shows can be like Ragtime.

^ RAGTIME (revival) was a massive financial flop on Broadway. I am sure producers will be extra careful about transferring FOLLIES.

Exactly, ljay. If it DOES, hypothetically, transfer, I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced some of the lesser-known performers too (ie, Ron Raines, Rosalind Elias, Regine, Michael Hays) and maybe even Elaine Paige for an American star or movie star. BUT we can only wait and see how it does. I am sure all those cast in the KC production will be outstanding. I've got my fingers crossed and can't wait to see it memorial day weekend!

Agreed! I would not be shocked if Raines was replaced for a transfer. But who knows? We are really the jumping the gun here. The reviews could be disastrous. I am hoping for the best though.

Raines has an excellent voice, though he's very operatic, almost moreso than Hearn; not sure how he is as an actor. The reviews COULD be disastrous, but, then again, they could praise it, as there really has not been a good full production of Follies since the Papermill production (1998?). I think if the production/design/direction elements are great, and most of the cast is good enough it could likely transfer. But it's a long ways off so we'll see what happens and hope for the best!!

Everyone thought the Papermill Follies would transfer & that fell through. The same thing happened with the Christine Baranski Mame. Never assume etc etc

Ah, it was discussed, lol.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
