I heard that this show was up to par with bad community theatre... Anyone see it?

Personally I have yet to see it, but I've heard similar things. Sad though, because it actually looks somewhat good on the commercials

Can it really be that bad? Is it just the acting? Are the voices enjoyable?
I heard that it wasn't anything really worth seeing, but the girl who played Carmen is fantastic (I forget her name).

Ya, I think I will buy the cast recording only so I can compare it to the national tour with Gavin and Jenn.
I have yet to see the NY production, but I have seen it in other incarnations (including the Equity tour with Creel, Gambatese, Neary, etc.) My take on it is that the performers make the show worth it...the show is sorely lacking in character development and plot depth. While I find much of the music catchy, overall it's the choreography and talents of the cast that make the memories.
The NET is in town for the upcoming weekend...I'm debating.
actually, ive heard Nicole Leach is the WEAKEST person in the show (she plays carmen)... it opens this week and probably will close this week too. My friend had to review it for work and the only good thing he had to comment on was the lighting which he said was a forced comment. Updated On: 11/9/03 at 11:24 PM
Nicole Leach (Carmen) has been great in other things... here she is only mediocre, but she is hardly the weekest link. The Serena is HORRIBLE. The Nick is bad... actually, I can't think of one good person.
What has become of New York theater? This whole show seems like it came from a well-off Arkansas high school.
