There were a bunch of little moments last night that were great.
What were your favourite parts?
Mine, in no order:
Favourite Parts:
- Daniel Evans singing along to the Rent performance
- Sondheim's speech
- Lin-Manuel Miranda’s shout out to Sondheim
- Laura Benanti’s excitement/love for Arthur Laurents
- Mark Rylance's speech!
- 96 000
- "SHUT UP, IT'S BEEN 29 YEARS!"
and for those who wacthed the red carpet on NY1:
- "Bradford Whitley"
Things I disliked:
- Jenna Russell seated behind Kelli O'Hara. I think that was a bad move, but maybe it's me.
- The best part of 'Part of Your World' was cut, which meant that Sierra's talent was not fully showcased.
- David Hyde Pierce's thanks from last year before he presented his award. It was like rubbing salt into what is still, for many, an open wound.
- (obviously) Sunday losing everything!
* I cannot believe Sunday did not win best scenic design.
* What was that white blouse that Whoopi was wearing? Is she auditioning for Pagliacci?
* Grease- terrible set design and Max Crumm was rather crumby.
* The Catered Affair bit was god-awful
YES! Whoopi's PIRATE SHIRT may have been borrowed from the "Seinfeld" show's wardrobe!
Great choice to focus more on performances, though - no matter how they turned out!

my favorite moments were The Lion King perf, the In the Heights perf, the Gypsy perf, Mark Rylance, Patti LuPone, Stew, Rent, Lin-Manuel and Marisa Tomei (i just love her :P).
I didn't much like Whoopi's straight play segment. it seemed like a good idea, but it just didn't pan out on the teevee. Hopefully one of these years they'll figure out how to showcase plays better.
least favorite was definitely Grease. it just sucked. also I switched the channel often when cry-baby came on; based only on the Tony performance, I don't get the hoopla of the show's choreography. it's energetic and athletic but nothing we haven't seen before, imo. (I actually thought the Xanadu dancing was more interesting to watch).

Too many commercials
"Have a happy period."
Best:
-Lin rapping his acceptance speech
-Whoopi in all the show clips, especially Spring Awakening
-Patti getting the music, and then telling the orchestra to shut up.
-"Arthur, you're standing!"
-Everything's Coming Up Roses
Worst:
-Anticlimatic RENT performance
-Circle of Life
-Liza's bizarre presentation
heathurr, i agree with most of yours!!! so true
BEST:
1. Gypsy Performance
2. Stephen's Speech
3. Patti's Speech
4. Lin's Rap
5. Laura's Speech
WORST:
1. RENT performance...should have done more of a collaboration of all the songs, incorporated both casts at once, etc. I just expected so much more
2. Grease Performance...just seemed tacky
3. Marisa Tomei's strut...just obnoxious (but it was redeemed in Lily Tomlin's parody of her)
Best (In no order):
1. In the Heights performance
2. Xanadu performance
3. Gypsy performance
4. Lin-Manuel Miranda's acceptance speech.
5. Patti LuPone's acceptance speech.
6. Whoopi Goldburg in the crab costume.
Worst (In no order):
1. Way too many commercials.
2. Grease performance
3. Cry Baby performance
4. Rent performance
Best:
-Cheyenne's doing his Xanadu thing! God that man has a voice and a half!
-"Sunday's" Performance. Beautiful!
-Patti at all times. Nuff said.
-Paulo Szot....yummy voice, yummy man.
Worst:
-I really don't get the hype about Rent, I guess it's just not my cup of tea.
The Chick Presenting Xanadu Screwing Up Every Word She Said
The Chick?!
BEST:
"Everything's Coming Up Roses"
and, without a doubt, Daniel Evans singing along to RENT. It pretty much made my night.
WORST:
Any time Whoopi Goldberg was onstage
Any time a presenter referenced their past awards
Good:
SUNDAY
GYPSY
Patti's speech
IN THE HEIGHTS
RENT
THE LION KING
YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
Bad:
PASSING STRANGE
XANADU
A CATERED AFFAIR
GREASE
SOUTH PACIFIC
Ugly:
Favorite moments:
Patti Lupone every time she was on screen
Laura Benanti's speech-excitement is a good thing
the audience's reaction to the OBC of Rent
Least Favorite moments:
Mary Louise Parker-see Laura Benanti
Grease-every single time this show was mentioned as a nominee
Little Mermaid-there is something about Sierra Borgess's voice that bugs me, at least in this song. I haven't really heard her sing anything else.
The absolute worst moment of the night:
Stew with the glasses-Ok, I get that he really couldn't care less about the Tony's, and that's fine, but some of the other nominee's certainly did and his "look at me" attitude took away from their moment in the spotlight.
Best Moments: In no particular order:
1. Everything Whoppi did and said
2. Xanadu's performance especially Cheyenne
3. Kerry Butler crossing her fingers and smirking in an adorable way knowing she ain't gonna win the Tony, as they announced the names
4. Patti's perfect speech
5. In the Heights performance- awesome
6.Lin-Manuel Miranda referencing Sondheim in his acceptance speech (and looking really hot while doing it)

My favorite part was LuPone's acceptance speech.
Least favorite was anything dealing with ITH, but especially that man's acceptance rap. Good God!!

Whoopie Goldberg definitely made the show. The ITH number was awful and the rap was atrocious. I also didn't care for Passing Strange performance but really liked A Catered Affair, a much better show scorewise than Passing Strange and ITH. I thought they would do something different for Grease. (I wanted to see more of Max and Laura hehe)
Favorite moments:
1.) Patti LuPone clapping offbeat and looking slightly confused during the very anti-climatic Rent performance.
2.)Hearing Eden loud and clear over the rest of the cast in the La Vie Boheme portion.
3.)Xanadu performance. I've always loved Kerry, but hot damn, Cheyenne was great.
4.)Alec and another Baldwin (Billy or Stephen, I can't remember) cheering after the Xanadu performance. It just seemed humorous to me that Alec Baldwin was so excited about Xanadu.
