Now THIS is exciting news. And quite a reunion!

They should take the show to New York after the run here.
I might have to rent a car and drive up there just to see it. My ex saw Bassett at the Guthrie last summer and said that she was out of this world. Or a transfer to B'way would be cool; that way I could see it on my annual trip.
Cheers,
Christopher

Laurence Fishburne currently stars in Alfred Uhry's Without Walls at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. A must see performance that makes me even more excited about Pasadena's staging of Fences!

I adore Laurence Fishburn and Angela Bassett. After seeing Othello, I was so impressed with Fishburn. And Bassett is classy, kickass, and solid in practically everything she does.
Keep in mind that Basset's role here (of the mother) is a supporting role. But what an INCREDIBLE part!
Mary Alice rightfully won the (featured) Tony for it. I actually saw the original twice becuase of HER (as much as I loved James Earl Jones).
It's a good, solid supporting role until the last half-hour or so. Then, she has one MAJOR scene that Angela should completely tear up on. It's jaw-dropping. I've no doubt if she rises to the occasion, she'll pick up a trophy or two along the way herself.
The freaky part is that the "son" in the original (the other major role in this show) was played by (Tony-nominated) Courtney Vance! Angela's hubby. So it's "all in the family" here.

I second Larry64. If you're in the LA area, you've got to get to the Mark Taper and check out 'Without Walls' before it closes on 7/16. Lawrence Fishburne is AMAZING!!!
Thanks for letting me know about this. I just bought a three-play season pass so I could get better seats (third-row center). My other half is going to kill me as I've been buying tickets to absolutely EVERYTHING these days. The other two shows are The Last Five Years and a new musical adaptation of Sister Act (probably will be awful, but could be fun).
Amazing cast, amazing show!!
