Posted: 9/17/08 at 4:41pmIt started in LA like a week ago. How would we know if it's a hit?

It's probably going to be Legally Blonde.
MGM is going through a tough time financially right now (major recent hits include "Casino Royale," "1408" and...uh...) and the surprise success of the show on Broadway, the upcoming tour and the reality TV show probably means it would be financially feasible to do a mid-budget musical that would gross near $100 million and do great on DVD.

Here's the difference: The original Hairspray and Producers movies wiere "cult" hits, with no big stars. The movie musical remakes had nore "names" than the original movies.
The original "9 to 5" had Fonda, Parton and Tomlin. What new cast is gonna equal that?

Legally Blonde, unfortunately, could be it.
Billy Elliot and Catch Me if You Can have potential.

Posted: 9/17/08 at 4:47pmI keep hearing about this Color Purple thing, which I hope to god does not happen. Spielberg's film is a masterpiece with flawless performances and a score fifty times as memorable as the amateurish, generic crap in the musical.

Please. LEGALLY BLONDE? Never. The original movie was a complete mediocrity uplifted by the presence of Reese Witherspoon.
If she hadn't agreed to do it it either A.) wouldn't have been made at all or b.) starred Brittany Murphy or Tara Reid, played in theaters for a week and then gone straight to the $5.99 bin at Duane Reade.

Posted: 9/17/08 at 5:15pmweren't they looking at Chenoweth before Reese? She wasn't a big name like Reese but I believe she still could of done justice to the role, unlike tara reid or brittany murphy.ha.

Posted: 9/17/08 at 5:33pmI believe Chenoweth declined the role because she did not want to be typecast as a ditzy blonde.
