After hearing Audra last weekend I CAN NOT WAIT for tonight! Porgy & Bess is not my favorite but I'm sure it'll climb up my list after hearing her and Brian Stokes Mitchell sing it!

Anyone else going?

I went last night. I still cannot get over Audra. She was fantastic. Her beautiful soprano!! Gosh I love her. And BSM...he was in great voice too as always. And Wayne Brady is always fun. =)

Have a GREAT time!! =)

I went last night, as well. Ultimately, all I could wonder is why no one is set to produce a full revival of this masterpiece with these two stars. It would seem to be so obvious.

And highlights were nice, but not NEARLY enough!

Wayne sang "It Ain't Necessarily So" and "There's a Boat Dat's Leavin' Soon for New York."

I agree DGrant, I was cheering for an ENCORE. =) oh well. Maybe they'll get one tonight.

Oh! I didn't know Wayne Brady was going to be there too! COOL! I'm still a little bitter about him backing out of Chicago when it was here in the beginning of the year, but I'm sure he had a good reason. And, Patti girl was...hmmm, still shaking my head. OK, I'm really looking forward to tonight! :)

I'm sitting WAY back - still problems with the sound like last week?

korenglish - it was at the Hollywood Bowl, tonight was the last night of the Gershwin weekend.

Ok, well here is my review:

Audra, Brian, Wayne, and the gospel chior were all amazing! I could honestly see Wayne as a Coalhouse if there is ever a revival .... I'm sorry, I had a little Ragtime on my mind with those two on stage.

It's only too bad we had to wait almost 1 1/2 hours for them to get up and sing! Besides that, my other complaint is that the whole evening seemed very unorganized. There were very large periods of time inbetween songs where the mood created by the previous song got lost while people rolled on a piano or tuned their instruments. And they didn't even introduce anyone by name. The encore seemed anticlimactic and unrehearsed, and because of all the pauses I spoke of before a LOT of people up and left not even realizing that an encore was coming.

I didn't leave with a better understanding of who Gershwin was or even with a feeling that the evening was in tribute to him - but maybe that was just me.

Had their singing not been incredible I would've rated the evening a huge disappointment. I'm not a big Gershwin fan to start off with so really I only went to hear THEM and not so much his music.

Even so, I'm glad I went. I hope everyone else who was there had a great time.
