I've been listening to this score a lot lately. It is one of my favorite show of all time. I saw it in the theatre more times than I would like to say...
Anybody else love this show?

Strangely, I watched their Tony performance again last night.
While I never got to see the show, I'm sure that 'We'll Take A Glass' brought in theatregoers by the score. What better memorial to the talents of Michael Jeter.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 3:20pmI love the show. I was a Jimmy in it last summer, and it's a beautiful show. I would love to playu Von Geighern someday, though.

Posted: 11/29/05 at 3:26pmA grand show indeed...especially Tune's staging. I wish the recording included the full score though. The amazing sequence early in the show where several key characters are each on the phone, their conversations intertwining and drifting in and out. We're lucky that it finally got recorded so I shouldn't complain.

I love this show. I did in it Seattle and Houston in '99. This was when I was heavy--I believe I am the fattest bellboy in Grand Hotel history!! I wore my character's OBC costume and they had to add huge panels so I could fit in the waist! lol
It was a fun show to perform. :)

In that picture from "We'll Take A Glass Together", you can see my fat leg on the left there.

Here I am 3rd person from right (2nd person from right is Liliane Montevecchi and 4th person from left is Carol Swarbrick for all you fans out there!) Man, I was FAT back then!

My parents saw your production, Jerby, even though I missed it.
But it's as good as time as ever to once again announce my Carol Swarbrick love.

She was DIVINE! She showed up at that audition looking like Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. HOT and to prove she could play that role. And did she ever. :)
I have very fond memories--especially of those 5 weeks in Seattle. CHILD!

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

Posted: 11/29/05 at 10:39pmI saw the Broadway production when John Schneider took over. I wasn't impressed with the production. All I really remember is that it had lots of chairs and singing lesbians.

Love it! I saw the show on a theatre trip I took to NYC in high school (shortly after their Tony performance). It was actually the second show I ever saw on Broadway (City of Angels was the first...the day before). Michael Jeter was utterly amazing, and I still get a bit teary-eyed when I think about his Tony speech. And I got to meet Tommy Tune! I was only 15 and to stupid to think of getting an autogrph or photo, but at least I have the memory.
I saw the show again about 12 years ago at CPCC in Charlotte, NC. Another good show. I think the most interesting bit (other than seeing one of my sort-of mentors as the ballerina), was that one of the Jimmys was played by a woman. Fabulously talented lady....
I sang "I waltz Alone" once for a recital, such a beautiful song.
I would love to do this show eventually. It's on my "persuade the board it really is a good show" list *lol*
Finally, has anyone else seen the FILM "Grand Hotel"? It isn't a musical (obviously), but it is still a loveley piece of b&W cinema (in my opinion).

Posted: 11/30/05 at 6:47amI never saw the show but I LOVE the cast recording. Did anyone see the Donmar version? Did it differ from the broadway version?

Saw the original Broadway cast and recently saw a very good production at The Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago with Barbara Robertson as the ballerina. Wonderful show!
I think a Studio 54 revival would be great.
