Have the opportunity to see either Gentleman's Guide... or Rocky... Suggestions????
Overall, Gentleman's guide is the better show, but Rocky is the bigger spectacle. I enjoyed my time at both, but whether to see a farcical English murder musical or a musical based on a blockbuster movie with a thrilling finale... one should sort of be your immediate gut reaction over the other, no?
Heterobics makes an excellent point. It really depends on your taste. Overall, Gentleman's guide seems to be the (much) better show.
I saw Rocky. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it, but I can't really reccommend it. But, if you like spectacle, it might be for you. Lots of people DO like it.

haterobics gets it right. Having typed that, I did also love, Rocky. I think you're fortunate either way. Enjoy.

I prefer Gentleman's Guide, but as others said, it's a very small-scale show, unlike Rocky.
They are so different. For the most part I agree with Haterobics. I saw Gentleman's Guide twice before it went to Broadway. Obviously, I liked it a lot. But I actually enjoyed Rocky more than many on this board. More significantly, my wife who hates boxing liked it more.
Gentleman's is cute. It is cute in the beginning, the middle and the end and it got mostly rave reviews. But I did not find it memorable, just fun. Many have been critical of the score in Rocky but I found it very charming and I remember much more of it, I think, because the characters meant more to me. It is a much bigger show and I never looked at my watch. This one comes down to personal taste.

They are two very different kinds of show. I doubt that big fans of one would truly love the other as well. Both musicals have mediocre scores. Rocky is rousing and even thrilling at times. Gentleman's Guide is allegedly witty and clever. I didn't laugh much, so the humor must have been lost to me. I already knew the plotline from the movie, so I didn't find it clever. The main reason to see it is to watch Jefferson Mayes play multiple roles with split second precision. I wish he were a better singer. Andy Karl is a terrific Rocky!
I thoroughly enjoyed Rocky. While far from perfect, it is a spectacle unlike anything I have seen in a Broadway theatre. Plus, Andy Karl and Margo Seibert are absolutely wonderful. I would definitely recommend it. Didn't see Gentleman's Guide, but I am not crazy about the cast recording.
Gentleman's Guide is brilliant. Don't miss it! I had a wonderful time at the show the other night!

Seeing them both, "Rocky" is an over the top spectacle but not true to the feeling of a Broadway show, if that makes sense. "Gentleman's Guide" felt very old fashioned, Broadwayish and I would return to it. I'd see "Gentleman's Guide" for the Broadway feel and "Rocky" for the spectacle. Overall though, I vote "Gentleman's Guide".
Whatever you see, ENJOY!!!

No competition. A Gentleman's Guide is the best show of the season.
