Right now, the grosses are right about where they have been for the past few months, and the theater has been filling at a fairly high capacity. Did this show recoup its initial investment? If so, I don't see it closing soon. This show doesn't cost as much to run as shows like Wicked and Mary Poppins, and it isn't necessarily losing any money. Therefore, there really isn't a reason to close it just yet unless grosses take a significant nosedive and there is a drop in the number of people who attend the show.

Posted: 7/25/07 at 9:51amYou keep citing "critics" in your posts, first they were demanding O'Hara and Esparza do Sunday in the Park...now they are saying that Avenue Q is closing soon. I think you need to stop listening to these critics.

The show has recouped, has a tiny cast, a tiny little set, and makes well over what it spends each week.
i looove these predictions. producers will not close shows unless there is a financial incentive to do so.

I haven't heard anything about Avenue Q "meeting its death" on Broadway soon. Perhaps you read one review that said that?
Again, people are still attending this show, it has been grossing approximately around where it has been the past few months, and it is not losing any money.

esparza 333, your claims really seem dubious to me. You're predicting every show is closing, "according to critics" or "based on a lot of people," and seeing Tale of Two Cities as a sure lock-in for next year's Tonys.
And that Jenna and Daniel are not suited for the Broadway run of with George. Meh.

I agree.
esparza 333, you joined yesterday and have started a handful of threads stating misinformation and baseless rumors.

Posted: 7/25/07 at 10:22amI'm very sorry everyone. What i meanth by making this thread was that in a few years like 5 or someting Avenue q would close. I wanted to discuss how big the Golden theatre is and what i meanth by it might be closing soon was that i was wondering if any producers were trying to get that theatre like young frankenstein did to the hilton and a tae is doing with the marguis. I am truly sorry.

Posted: 7/25/07 at 11:00ami didn't say that Jenna and Daniel weren't suited for broadway. I heard the cast recording and I think they are both brilliant. i am excited to see them come to broadway. I just thought they were picking new lead. I am a huge fan of theirs and i think their oliviers were well deserved.

Posted: 7/25/07 at 3:51pmA lot of the long-running shows have been rumored to be closing lately. Look at Rent! Next they'll be calling for the death of Phantom. How much time do you think that has left, by the way?

So, you think 5 years is 'soon?'
I love Avenue Q more than you can imagine. However, I don't think it'll last (about) 5 more years. On the other hand, I don't think it will close anytime 'soon.'
Perhaps we have a different definition of soon...
