Is it possible for productions to add the songs like You're the One that I Want and Hopelessly Devoted To You?
because Chicago's Marriott Theatre added the movie songs, and my college is doing it (my senior show) and I want to do it with those songs...cuz...the original songs suck.

The Marriott Lincolnshire paid $10,000 to license the additional songs from the movie.
I am not kidding. Ten thousand dollars. That works out to about $1200 A WEEK in additional royalties.

Robert Stigwood owns the movie songs and he is listed as an Associate Producer of this latest incarnation.
What do you bet he didn't have to put any money up front, got AP billing, gets song royalties and will share in any profits?
If you have something that people really, really want, make them pay you for it and risk as little as possible.

Posted: 8/21/07 at 3:50pmWell, Stephanie, if companies were able to license the '94 revival version you'd also get to sing "Since I Don't Have You" which is amazing on the revival recording.

You should try to get them to add "Since I Don't Have You". Or just go listen to it on itunes and vent about how terrible it is that they don't license that version.

Posted: 8/21/07 at 5:10pmI am in the minority, but I loved the 94 Revival of GREASE. The new orchestrations were so much fun. I loved the bubble gum look fo it.. it was like candy. I lost track of how many times I saw it. Comfort shows!

Posted: 8/21/07 at 7:42pmI wondered why they never released the rights to this! I'm definitely in the minority too FlauntIt that was my favorite version of the show! I loved the camp and the cartoon look of it. Especially how they all poked there heads out of the cut out curtain in the opening! he he

Posted: 8/21/07 at 9:06pmI'm glad they didn't use the songs from the movie. I don't think this production would have benefited from them. "Since I Don't Have You" and the Megamix Finale thing were amazing on their own.
