"Starting Tuesday night a high-definition video camera, attached near the balcony rail at the Al Hirschfeld Theater, will capture the so-called dance parties at the end of the each performance of Hair, when cast members of the musical revival coax audience members onstage to rock out with them as the band plays Let the Sunshine In.
During four minutes of taping, set off by the press of a button in the light booth, the camera will follow a programmed sequence panning across the stage and capturing close-ups of the frolicking patrons.
About four hours after each performance the video will be available for anyone to view on hairbroadway.com. Visitors can choose any dance party to download to Facebook pages, or share with friends and others through e-mail or Twitter. Audience members can tag themselves on the videos so that friends can go to the Hair Web site and find the precise moment when the person appears on screen."
I think this is pretty cool, especially for people to find the performance they saw and say "Hey, look, there's me!". This seems like a pretty fun idea.

Posted: 2/1/10 at 10:07pmThis sounds like a good idea. And another reason for people to buy tickets, I guess! haha. When is the revival cast's last performance on Broadway, and when is their first in the West End? I wish every show would do something similar to this! Sounds like fun! lol.

Posted: 2/1/10 at 10:11pmI believe their last Broadway performance is March 7. I hadn't thought of how one could say it will preserve the cast (and future casts) in ways other than just the 30 second press clips. It's also nice for people like me who don't live close enough to see the show to be able to see what everybody is talking about with the fun dance party finale.

I like this idea. Dancing on the stage is such great/unique experience. It will be nice to have a video of it.
TalkinLoud, I also would love to have a video of the whole show!
Maybe someday.

A great little gimmick to sell tickets.
My memory serves me great as a way to capture it. (I'm not sure if I REALLY want to see what it looks like, though!)

I was there with my daughter and we both went up...tried to do a quick look but will check again when I have more time.
My daughter was beside herself happy with the whole Hair experience and is in love with Jay Armstrong Johnson, who went on as Claude last night.

Posted: 2/3/10 at 7:44amWhile I'm sure it's a fun idea and all I fail to see what's so genius about this. What person who wouldn't have gone to see the show anyway is going to be enticed by this?

i thought this was starting last wednesday, but alas it was yesterday, so i just missed it. makes me a little sad but it is a fabulous idea as you are not supposed to take cameras on stage. i did see vid cameras and stuff but i didn't want to ruin my experience, which in itself was very exhilarating without seeing the video. it is one which anyone would never ever forget. on stage twice in two days. i didn't even bring my camera up the second time as much as i wanted to.
