I am going to see Heartbreak House this Sunday and was wondering if anyone has seen this porduction yet. I am very excited and would love to hear some thoughts.

Haven't seen the production, but I wanted to pipe in and say that I'm also interested in hearing from anyone who has. I know nothing about the play, but I was walking by the theatre in late July and the image on poster grabbed me--I kept it on my mental list of things to check out. I thought I might try and catch a performance if I ever have the time, so I wonder if it's any good.

Have previews even begun yet?

Yes Sept 15. And no one has posted a review here yet.

Ooh, I'm very curious to hear about the brilliant Swoosie.

Brilliant! It really is a good play.

I saw the third preview last Saturday evening and thought it was a very bland production. Philip Bosco was very blah, IMO, and Swoozie Kurtz was very good, but still needs time to develop the character I think. Some scenes she nailed (and even got exit applause after one of them), but others need work, IMO. The standout for me was Laila Robins, who was fabulous! Overall though, I didn't care much for the play. The set was dull. Lighting was good. I think the cast just needs time to "gel" and I'm sure it will get better as previews progress.

A friend of mine saw the first preview last week. She said it was a disaster, and mentioned particularly Swoozie Kurtz stumbling over her lines. I hope it improves, because the cast is VERY promising..

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I saw the second preview last Saturday evening. It was horrendously boring. Philip Bosco was unintelligible but still likeable, but Swoosie- whoever told her it was okay to go onstage without knowing her lines is a moron. Byron Jennings was the only standout for me... The other times when he was not onstage, I was trying not to think of all the other shows I could've seen instead.

Shaw is a horribly boring good writer people. Were you expecting a Martin McDonagh play? With tons of action and drama.

Shaw is all about repeating the same peice of information 6 times. I saw Miss Warren's Proffesion last year at the Irish Rep. and it was great but the show was too damn long. I am currently in a production of You Never Can Tell and we cut about an hours worth of dialouge because Shaw was trying to be witty and see how many times he could say the same things over and over again.

I've heard mostly negative things, stemming from an unprepared, uncharismatic cast.

I've heard pretty negative things as well, though I'm still curious to see it. I suppose I'll wait until it opens, see if things pick up a bit throughout previews.

Swoosie Kurtz, though quite funny, needs to work on her accent, which at last Sunday's matinee sounded more Nebraska than London. I agree with WithoutATrace that Laila Robins is the standout...she's brilliant.
