It just popped into my head. Please dont be mean if u disagree. I just had to bring it up and i guess i thought here was a good place to do so. But really, think about it...??

JAZZYSUITE: I don't think Patti would have done the movie version of SUNSET BOULEVARD anyway afer all that happened with her starring the show on Broadway - even if she had been offered the part.

Posted: 4/18/05 at 2:44pmI don't think that it's the lack the name Patti LuPone being well-known that will keep her from getting that part. As far as her name goes, I think it's fine.......It' not Meryl Streep, but good enough I think......Did anyone know of Gerald Bulter or Emmy Rossum??????......not really, more people have heard of Patti than they have heard of them......Anyways, I think that her name and it notoriety is not the reason why she won't get the part

Posted: 4/18/05 at 2:52pmIndeed, MTVMANN. Patti burned her bridges with Webber a long time ago.

If I remember correctly, she had lots of difficulties during Evita, though not directly with ALW. But then Sunset Boulevard came along, a show in which Patti participated in EARLY workshops and was in the process the whole time. She starred in the role in London and was contracted to do the Broadway mounting as well. When Glenn Close did the LA mounting, ALW fired Patti and had Close do the Broadway production. Patti sued and they've hated each other since. (she called him fat in a recent interview)
Is that correct?

Posted: 4/18/05 at 4:24pmYup. She also refers to her swimming pool as the "Andrew Lloyd Webber Memorial Pool", because she had it built with the money she won in the settlement.

thank you!!!!!!
Did ALW like Glenn Close's Norma better or did he just not want Patti in the role, and knew that Glenn would be a box-office draw, just the same?

Well the OFFICIAL version of the story is that the investors were much more comfortable with having Glenn Close as Norma in the Broadway production than with Patti. Close received great reviews in L.A. so they insisted on Glenn playing the role in the original Broadway cast, though Patti had been contracted to originate the role on Broadway. Some of the N.Y. theatre critics had seen Patti's performance in London and they didn't like her at all and wrote some not-so-nice reviews and that scared the investors.
And when the show had opened in L.A. they had changed it a bit from the original London version and the production team was very happy with the changes so they decided to close the London production for about 3-4 weeks to incorporate all the changes into the London production - which had been running about 9 months by then. When the London production re-opened the cast was lead by Betty Buckley as Norma.
In L.A., Glenn Close was heading for Broadway, so they started to look for a replacement for her. Movie star Faye Dunaway ("Bonnie & Clyde") was cast as Norma, but her singing wasn't too good. She worked hard to be able to sing the score but the production team thought she wouldn't be able to do it without sounding like Rex Harrison in MY FAIR LADY. So they fired her and closed the L.A. production and transferred the whole cast to Broadway. And another law suit - this time from Faye Dunaway - followed...
