Ok, my friends and family are going to be in the city on Aug 29-30, to see two shows. The 29th is all set, we are seeing Avenue Q (and my mother and brother are seeing Rent). However, the 30th is still a mystery for us. We don't want to spend loads of money, so rush/TKTS is a must (there are 5 of us, so lottery won't really work). Could anyone offer some advice?

-I want to see something that I can't see here in MA. So, newer shows would be better, but older shows that aren't overdone by community theater are fine too.
-My friend is big into comedy. He is dead set against seeing a jukebox show. My other friend just wants to see a good show.
-When I talked about it with my mother, she said she doesn't want to see Piazza, as she claims she won't understand it (I mentioned that part was in Italian - she didn't like that).
-My little brother is 13. That doesn't make too much of a difference, though, as he's a mature 13 (and there isn't too much inappropriate stuff on Broadway right now).

We do know that we want to see a musical (personally, I'd love to see a play, but its 4-1 on that vote). Thanks for any help!

Maybe something Off-Broadway? Like Altar Boyz or Forbidden Broadway?

Producers will have you peeing your pants from laughing so hard! Great comedic show! Spamalot is also one of those so random its funny musicals. Plus you need to catch Sara before she leaves the show!

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

Thank you for the responses, but 4/5 of us have already seen The Producers (I've seen it twice - that's MORE than enough). I think we are just going to go the the TKTS booth and pick from there (I personally hope that DRS is there!). Thanks again, guys! (and girls!)

DRS would be a great choice! FYI, I went to the tkts booth last Saturday and got 3 tickets for the evening performance of DRS, but they were only selling the tickets for 35% off (rather than the standard 50%). In my opinion, it was still completely worth it.

Chicago was excellent....

I got 5th row center tickets for half price at the DRS box office on the day of the performance. So, I think you will be able to get tickets!

If DRS is only 35% get rush for Altar Boyz.

Though I do suggest All Shook Up even though your friend is set against it.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
