Ok, so I have never seen the movie of HSM, but from everything everyone has said, I was thinking that this was going to SUCK! But I decided to have an open mind and I knew that the staged version would be much better. This production basically exceeded all my expectations. Most of the performers were actually college graduates with a degree in musical theater. There were a couple Middle/High School students in it, but not very many. From the small bits of clips I have heard from the movie, everyone in the stage production was much better vocally. I wish the staged production would have been made first so that people wouldn't be all insane over the movie. So yeah, I loved the show, so don't think of me as some HSM fanatic or something because I am not. I liked the staged production, not the movie...huge difference. Seeing things on stage are always better because the setting, the lighting, ect. The whole feel was great and pleasing to watch.

The actual review is kind of going to be all over the place with no real structure, so bare with me.

The Wild Cat Cheer is one of my favorite songs in the whole show. There was SO much energy that I was so amazed. It was so much fun to watch. The cheerleaders really did a great job. The dance sequences in the show are literally jaw dropping. They were just so well choreographed and so much fun to watch. The music was loud and I love it that way. All the people looked like teenagers every though they weren't. They really acted the parts great. Start of Something New was also amazing. I really liked how this song was staged. The one thing I didn't like about the production in general was the scene changes. Between every dialouge there was some type of major set change dealing with rolling the lockers around. It was too much and very distracting. Get'cha Head In The Game apparently wasn't staged the same according to my friend that saw it with me. She said the choreography wasn't as good. Stick to the Staus Quo was amazing. I died laughing watching the big girl poppin' and lockin', she was hilarious. The Troy and Gabriella really had a lot of chemistry. Their I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You was amazing and there was a lot of chemistry. I really liked Sharpay, she played the part perfectly in my eyes and was so talented. She was recently in the touring cast of Beauty and The Beast as Belle, so this girl is great. The person that played her brother wasn't that great vocally, but I liked his acting. Start of Something New was fabulous. The dancing just blew me away and the whole feel of everything was just amazing. The energy of the cast almost made the roof blow off. Act 2 just basically blew me away the whole time. It seemed like there were 3 finales to this show lol. They did this cool Megamix thing at the end that incorporated the curtain calls. There was so insane dancing and then certain people would come out, and more dancing and singing, and then more people would come out. It was really awesome to see it that way. This whole scene was just amazing and I wanted to stand up and start dancing and singing along with them. I obviously didn't, but the energy of the cast and the awesome dancing just made me want to.

I was very pleased with this production and I am glad I saw it. I was the last person that would have seen it since I had judged the movie too much. I will most likely not like the movie just because the staged version I can guarantee is better. Don't think of me any different because I enjoyed this production so much, because this production was an amazing piece of theater. I can see it doing very well touring or even on Broadway. Just think about it, no lip syncing, no bad acting/singing like apparently in the movie, and amazing talent. I would def. see this production when it starts to tour. Even if you hate the movie, you will most likely like this production because I actually consider this theater. I am seeing the show on Sunday again.

I also resently saw a production of this show, and I have to say that it has some major broadway potential.
Yeah, the movie kind of sucked, but look at the crowd it drew! The show is alot better then the movie, and with the right talent I think that it could be pretty amazing.

I'm glad many of you are saying that this show is better than the movie, because that probably means some people actually woke up and said "omg, that movie sucked! let's make it better!"
