I hope this happens. He'd be great in this long overdue revival. I say Donna Murphy for Vera!

I think he'd certainly play the role well, but would he be a big enough name to headline this?
I don't know, it just doesn't seem many people would be interested in seeing a revival of PAL JOEY without some sort of "star" in it.

He is amazing in Jersey Boys.
I have never seen Pal Joey before, but if his performance is half as good as JB, I'm sure he'll be fine.
If it gets the word of mouth that JB has, they may not have to worry about a big star draw.

Looks like Hoff won't be playing Joey as soon as we thought. The production is being postponed. From Playbill:
Pal Joey Revival, with Jersey Boys Star Hoff, Postponed

"Producer Platt told the paper, 'This spring the timing is just not right, but hopefully it will happen as soon as it can.' Platt added that the postponement was for personal and professional, not financial, reasons. He also said that Mantello and Hoff are still attached to a future production."
I think the obvious reason for the postponement is the fact that this season is already jam PACKED with Musical Revivals, and even a fantastic revival of PAL JOEY could easily get lost in the shuffle.
We're used to seasons with two, three, or four musical revivals. This season we already have GREASE, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, GUYS AND DOLLS, SOUTH PACIFIC, PORGY AND BESS; with additional possibilities of CABARET, GYPSY, FOLLIES, THE WIZ, and WEST SIDE STORY.
I think it's a smart decision to put it off until next season.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

WEST SIDE STORY and THE WIZ aren't scheduled till the '08-'09 season. GYPSY and FOLLIES are not happening anytime soon, I wonder if PORGY AND BESS will make it this season, and CABARET has yet to be officially announced. Let's hope it does happen though.
Donna Murphy played Vera during the workshops when the Weisslers were attached, I think Bernadette Peters is the one being considered now that Platt is behind the project.

Stockard Channing was being considered for Vera, as per the Times today.
No Go for ‘Pal Joey’
After years of unsuccessful tries, it finally looked as if a revival of the 1940 Rodgers and Hart musical comedy, “Pal Joey” — the first revival since 1976 — was going to make it to Broadway in the spring. Though never officially announced, the production, with a revised libretto by Richard Greenberg, had lined up Christian Hoff, above right, to star and Joe Mantello to direct (Stockard Channing was also in the mix, though no deal had been made). It was even the front-runner for the Richard Rodgers Theater after “Tarzan” closed. But in the last few weeks, the producer of the revival, Marc Platt, decided to postpone the production. “This spring the timing is just not right, but hopefully it will happen as soon as it can,” Mr. Platt said in a telephone interview, adding that the postponement was not for financial reasons but for personal and professional reasons (“It’s my bad,” he said). Mr. Platt also said that Mr. Mantello and Mr. Hoff were still interested and attached to the production. CAMPBELL ROBERTSON
