I'm going to be in NYC from Dec. 28-Jan 2 and I was wondering if it's common for leads in shows to have their understudies/standbys go on more frequently during Christmas time. I know people tend to get sicker during this time of the year, but is it common for people to go on vacation. Basically, am I most likely going to see the regular cast at most performances? Or is it just the same as anytime of the year?
It's a huge time on B'way. Very few vacations are granted over this time (unless you are a HUGE star).

I think the only time I ever saw an understudy at Christmas week was for Mary Poppins - Mary understudy. Usually actors take time off in Jan or Feb...if they want a winter break. Theaters charge higher prices for holidays seats and they want to make sure people get what they pay for - whenever possible.
