How old? I was considering doing it to save money, but my mom isn't so keen about me going in by myself. I'm thirteen. How old do you have to be?

Theatres in general are safe if that's what your asking. New York itself is a different story...

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

Nobody under 4 is allowed, so, you have to be over 4 years old. As Meagan said, theaters are extremely safe. NY is generally safe, too, just watch out.

Oh, I know theatres are safe. I'd have someone accompaning me in the city. I just want to know if there is a certain age limit. I was let into PIAZZA by myself, but my dad was also there, and entered later than I did.

It shouldn't be a big deal to enter by yourself. They have no idea if the person behind you is related to you or not.

I sat through my first show by myself when I was 11. My parents were seeing something else and dropped me off and retrieved me at the door. Nobody gave me any grief.

Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

you'll be totally fine in the theatre. you should be okay in the city, just make sure you know where you're going, and you go there.

I saw Footloose by myself when I was like 12 years old. My mom just brought me up to the theatre, and then went to see another show with her friends. I was told to wait inside until she came to pick me up. It was no big deal.

Its just like anything else, don't talk to people who seem a little off or go with anyone. Usually the ushers are incredibly nice to children who are without a guardian.

What are you seeing and when?

I don't live in New York, but one of the kind people on this board might being seeing the same show you are (or near by) and would keep an eye out for you.

I am of course speaking for others, since I'm in Kentucky....

SALLY: The show I think I'll see by myself is WOMAN IN WHITE, and maybe SWEENEY TODD. I was supposed to take a friend to see RENT, but now he doesn't seem interested, so I cancelled. I'll PM you once I get the tickets to the shows, though I think I'm just going to see WOMAN IN WHITE by myself, probably in December, around winter break, and Sweeney Todd probably in November. Here's to hoping I see them. (Toasts and drinks soda.) Also supposed to see DOUBT with my dad.

At least they are nice to someone, 'cause they certainly aren't nice to adults!

The walk from Port Authority to any of the Broadway theaters is very crowded and touristy and therefore relatively safe. You shouldn't have a problem getting in if you're 13, unless the show has some kind of age policy. But offhand, I can't think of any on Broadway that do.

Piazzaslight, don't plan to meet anyone unless they are known to your parents.

et, just what I was going to say.

Also, in this day and age with cell phones, even a blind kid can find her way around the city (Trust me on this one.).

Well, I'm glad he got away with it.

Um, I know the theatre district very well. Overall, I think that THE WOMAN IN WHITE is the only show I will be seeing by myself. I saw it in London 1 and 3 quarters times (Don't ask) and my dad is not to fond on seeing it again. Sure, he liked the show, he just doesn't want to see it again. And I can take care of myself, thank you. To me, the only rule to survival in the city is to not trust anyone. There are exceptions, true, but still.

And no, I don't have a cell phone.

Well considering where The Woman in White is playing, you should feel even safer than you did. The Marquis is right smack in the middle of Times Square!

I'd say, no worries.

i go to the theater myself because my parents are busy. At least it saves you money and its convenient. I'm 14, so that probably explains why I can do this. I also live in NYC. If I was younger, forget it.
