I Love You Because
A Reading

July 6th, 2005 (New York, NY) Producers Jennifer Maloney and Fred M. Caruso are proud to present a reading of the new musical I LOVE YOU BECAUSE, a modern day telling of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice for one day only at the East 13th Street Theatre (136 East 13th Street between 3rd and 4th). Set in New York City, I LOVE YOU BECAUSE follows Austin Bennet, a young greeting card writer whose life is turned upside down when he finds his girlfriend in bed with another man. He is sent back out into the treacherous New York dating scene where he meets Marcy, who's spontaneity is matched only by her ability to drive Austin insane. What ensues is a comedy about love that explores the rules and nuances of dating and how sometimes love is learning how to love someone not in spite of their differences, but because of them.


I Love You Because is being produced by Jennifer Maloney (Associate Producer of As the World Turns and Producer on the upcoming Broadway shows The Secret Order, Nov 2005 and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life, Dec 2005) and Fred M. Caruso (Producer of the Drama Desk nominated NEWSICAL and General Manager for One Way Ticket to Hell opening in LA in 2006).

The creative team includes Director Daniel Kutner (former Robert Moss Directing Resident at Playwrights Horizons and current Assistant Director to Broadway legend, Harold Prince), Joshua Salzman (Music - Joshua recently received the ASCAP Foundation Frederick Loewe Award for musical theatre composition; MFA from NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, BMI Workshop Composer). Ryan Cunningham (Words - MFA from NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, BMI Workshop Lyricist).

The cast includes: Stephanie D'Abruzzo (currently starring in the Tony-winning Broadway musical Avenue Q. Stephanie received a Tony nomination, a Theatre World Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award), Lisa Howard (currently starring in the new Broadway hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Lisa won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performer), Julie Reiber (currently in All Shook Up on Broadway) and David A. Austin (recently returned from the China tour of The Wedding Banquet), Colin Hanlon (currently in RENT on Broadway), Michael Minarik (currently rehearsing for the 1st National Tour of Little Women).

I LOVE YOU BECAUSE will be opening Off-Broadway in the Fall 2005.

I was. It was a very nice evening. They all did very well. And it was FREE to see. Each castmember, besides one, is in a Broadway Show. It was just a very nice enjoyable evening.

I was there. It was a wonderful reading.
I thought the writing was fantastic. It is fresh, clever with a kick. This show has the potential to be the next big hit.
The entire cast were outstanding.
Colin Hanlon blew me away. His voice and charm was contagious.
Lisa Howard has a gorgeous voice that really worked in the reading. She was wonderful.
Stephanie was great as usual, although I would have loved to have seen her as Marcy.
I loved "I Love You Because" Because it was absolutely charming.
