In an article, Stephen Sondheim listed "I'll Never Go There Anymore" from the infamous flop musical "Kelly" as one of the songs he wished he had written. However, I have not been able to find a place where I can listen to it for free. I don't want to buy the 1998 Encores version, because that would force me to waste money on the rest of the album, which I am too poor too risk paying for a really crappy album. If anyone could find a place where I could find a full, non-instrumental version of the song, I'd really appreciate it.

The 1998 recording is a Studio Cast recording by OCR, not an Encores! presentation. I have a copy, but I have to unearth it amongst the stacks of CDs I have.

Unfortunately, the accompaniment is synthesizer, which doesn't do the score any favors.

The recording stems from a Musicals in Mufti presentation.

Sandy Stewart (Bill Charlap's mom and the composer's widow) has done a very nice solo version of the song on one of her albums.

"Where do these rumors get started?"

A lot of them get started right here.

The best version of the song is by Michelle Lee on her 60s album, which I believe is on CD -

It is on a two-fer Michele Lee CD of albums from 1966/67 and is very good. Much Bway stuff and pop. And cool gogo boots! :)

I finally listened to Kelly and "I'll Never Go There". It's a decent song- not worthy of Stephen Sondheim wishing he wrote it, but decent. As for the rest of the show, it's as bad as the critics said it was. The singers tried their best to polish this clunky turd, but failed miserably. Yikes.
