After a long time, I popped in the "Caroline, or Change" CD tonight. It evoked so many good memories from that show. I saw Capathia's u/s, but she still kicked ass. I tried to spot Tracy Nicole Chapman and when I found her, I thought to myself "Ooo! The stepsister!" hehe. I'm such an oddball. My favorite song is "Rose Stopnik can cook". I don't even know why! It's just great characterization for the grandparents and Rose herself. It's such a brilliant show.

Are the rights out to produce this show?

I got to see it a week before it closed, from the front row. It was truly amazing. I really wish it would have lasted much, much longer. I was hoping they would have cast Audra McDonald as Caroline, I think that would have been wonderful. Great show, wish it was available on DVD...

Funny, I was just in a conversation over drinks last night with a friend and the show came up. So glad I got to see it on Broadway. Last year someone posted here that they had spoken to someone from HBO, who were producers, and this person said that HBO was thinking of either airing it or putting it on DVD. I have actually contacted HBO via e-mail about it, but no response.

Audra as Caroline? With a daughter in college? I don't see it.

Hmm. I think I read something somewhere about the possibility of it being talked about for the National Theatre in London. Can't remember if it was a rumour or just an idea for good venue, which I believe it is.

Yes Tonya was a bit of a mess on the Tonys. She was very sick, and missed almost 2 weeks of performances after that night last June. Concerning Audra, that's definitely interesting. I immediately thought that it would be a horrible casting choice. But Caroline's range is rather low and I think (if she'd do it) almost all of that material would be in her belt. Audra is 34, so she's a bit young to pass for a 39 year old, but I think it could be possible. Matt - Emmie isn't in college (I believe she's 14). But Larry the oldest son is fighting in Vietnam, which makes him college-age (19 or so - doesn't she have him in 1943? or is it 45?).

Sign the Caroline, or Change petition if you'd like HBO to release the already filmed show on dvd.

I wish I'd gotten to see this show a second time; it closed far too soon. But I've kvetched about that in around 342 threads, so I'll stop now.

Audra would never in a million years take the kind of risks Tonya took with her voice. And I just can't see her in the role, much as I admire her talents.

she mentioned in an interview that she wanted to take the role one day. also, of course she wouldnt take the risks with her voice because she would find a way to sing it all correctly.

I was actually quite impressed with her tony performance last year. She was so intense and fierce. Why did it close so soon?

alwy15 - oh I don't doubt that Audra has the chops for it - but she never takes risks with her performing - at least not in my opinion - everything is so studied and controlled with her - just once I want to hear her let go and belt the sh*t out of something...letting her entire soul flow with the music.

haha..yup...Well I have had the Cast Recording ever since it the first day it was released and I was fortunate enough to see the cast in San Francisco with only the understudy for Aisha de Haas (the moon). I was completely blown away. This show doesn't deserve to go away, I would love to see a DVD come out.

Seeing it on Broadway would've been impossible for me (living on the other side of the country does that...) but I was so excited when I found out it'd be coming to San Francisco. And then... I missed it. And was pissed.

Not that it's an accurate judgement of the show itself, but I actually loved the Tony performance, pitch issues aside - the intensity of it was amazing.

redhot - i think audra is the best singer in the world. but, i agree. just once i wanna hear that higher belt she'll never reveal. it would be one of the best moments of my life, when i hear that.

also, im going to brag. i saw the show in NYC and then i flew to LA to see it again. it ranks as one of the greatest shows ive ever seen.

So glad I saw this show when it's NY run. One of the best shows I have seen in a while...I say the best broadway musical since Ragtime. I really hope HBO decides to release this on DVD.

Audra has revealed her higher belt. In MARIE CHRISTINE...and it was thrilling (even though I wasn't a fan of the show).

Fact is, I can belt the entirety of the role of Caroline. It's really not that high. Audra could handle it easily...and thrillingly...in a couple of years.
