An ILLYA DARLING CD, or an actual production? The 1967 re-make of the film NEVER ON SUNDAY, which played the Mark Hellinger, received 1 favorable review, 1 mixed, 1 unfavorable, and 3 pans. Its only asset appeared to be its star, Melina Mercouri, who was in the film version. Its famous pit conductor, Lehman Engel, bad-mouthed the show to the press when it was out of town and was fired. It was to be Engel's last Broadway show. He then concentrated on the BMI musical workshops which he had founded. Walter Kerr, critic of the NY Times, said "ILLYA DARLING, inadvertently and unluckily, makes movies seem better than ever". Why would anyone care about this theatrical disaster?

The first CD release of the old U.A. cast album was announced over a year ago by DRG. It keeps getting delayed. No word on what the problem is. (Rights problems with the estates? Condition of the master tapes?)
I'm hoping that DRG will get to another old U.A. cast album - and an even bigger flop ANYA.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
