Broadway Musicals, 1943-2004 (Hardcover)
by John Stewart
List Price: $195.00

Any information appreciated. I found it while looking around on Amazon. There is still no cover image. Anyone know anything? Pretty darn expensive, even for a coffee-table book!

Here's what I found digging around on line. It sounds like a reference book, not a coffee table book. But it also sounds pretty damn impressive:

Broadway Musicals, 1943–2004
John Stewart
With more than 750 entries, this comprehensive
reference book provides information
on every musical produced on Broadway since
Oklahoma in 1943. Each entry contains a brief
synopsis of the show; the pre–Broadway story
of the show; the facts of the Broadway run
itself, with dates, theatres, and cast and crew;
and post–Broadway information with a
detailed list of later notable productions, along
with important reviews and awards.
[992]pp. $¡95 library binding (8∂ × ¡¡) est. Sept. 2005
Bibliography, appendix, indexes ISBN 0-7864-2244-0

EDIT: My only thought is that it's already dated. It ends in 2004. Just like buying a book on the Oscars. Two years later you wish it had more info in it. But if you don't mind the date range (apparently Show Boat and Rodgers & Hart, etc., never existed!) this sounds frighteningly comprehensive.

So it DOES have pictures? There was no mention of it in the publisher's blurb, so I assumed it was reference-style.

Well, then, YES, it's coffee-table-ready. (Although I bet it weighs 300 pounds, if it's that all-inclusive.)

EDIT: Just got your edit, smartpenguin. So, no pictures.
It's a reference book (...to end ALL reference books).

I wish I could find the book I was talking about again, it was the same price as this one but the publication date was earlier this year, similar period and lots of pictures, but far fewers shows.

Thanks, best12bars. I think I'll search the library and local bookstores until I find it, just to look it over before I shell out $195....
