Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.

Are you referring to that teenage girl thing?
If so, when someone commits a crime, they're not blacklisted from working.

He hasn't even gone to trial yet.
And one is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, at least that's the impression I was under....

Details on what he did, please.
I am drawing a blank.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 12:42pmI don't think it was sex... I thought she just claimed he sexually assaulted her in his dressing room. I could be wrong, though.

"when someone commits a crime"
He has not been convicted of this, there has been no trial yet.
This is an old article but really one of the few on what happened.

Up until about 20 years ago, they were. People's careers were ruined by lesser offenses and accusations than this.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 12:51pmWell, I just thought that he would be too busy with the trial and everything to start a new project. I just don't know when the trial is or was set.

"I just don't know when the trial is or was set."
Trials can take months, and in some cases years, before they are set.

Posted: 7/13/06 at 12:58pmI really don't care what he may or may not have done, that man's voice is amazing. He could read the phone book and I would drool. I listened to the OBC of Jane Eyre for the first time yesterday and melted on the floor every time he sang.
#11re: Is he already not guilty?
Posted: 7/13/06 at 1:01pmHe is being accused of more than just trying to have sex with someone...he is accused of, among assault, sodomy.

Just to clarify, it wasn't an under aged girl either. She was 19 at the time of the alleged offense.

I thought she was now 19, but younger at the time. I could be wrong.

No, she was 19 when she brought the accusation earlier this year. The incident happened nearly 5 years ago in 2001 when she was 15.

Well people, let's try to get our facts straight.
He did not rape her, or "assault" her. He simply had sex with her (including an act of sodomy, evidently), and it was consentual. However, because she was underage (15 at the time, although she is now several years older), this is technically statuatory rape even though she consented.
He was arrested, but, so it seems, released. Whether or not the charges have been dropped or a trial will occur remains unclear.
I'm glad he's still working. What he did was wrong, but I don't think this should be a career-ending mistake. That is if he even did it.

Thanks for clarifying the trial thing. I'm glad Barbour is working though, he has a lovely voice

This may be a bit naive, but if it was consensual, why is she coming forward at all? Did she go to him and threaten to expose their affair (so to speak) if he didn't help her in her career?

"Well people, let's try to get our facts straight. "
Whose facts? The facts will be presented by those involved in front of legal representation. Meantime, Barbour can work until the case proceeds. Anything posted here is public opinion, because those who know the facts are not permitted to comment.

Magdalene: if she feels genuinely violated and abused by whatever happened, then it could have taken her all that time to come to terms with it, convince herself it wasn't her fault, confide in a friend who encouraged her to do something about it, believe that she would be taken seriously, whatever. Most people don't rise up and say "hey, I was abused, and I want justice!", certainly not right away, for a variety of reasons.
Of course, my cynical side is laughing at the sentence "It was not clear why the woman, now an aspiring actress, waited so long to come forward."

He has every right to go about his life until the charges come to court. Is he just supposed to sit around and wait for the trial? I am sure he posted some kind of bond and if there are no restrictions, allow him to do just about anything he wants inside the law. Why is it shocking that he is doing a show?

True, to a point---but she went back for more, so I don't have a lot of sympathy or belief (that's MY cynical side coming through
