The title says it all - Jay Johnson: The Two and Only should be added to all theatergoers must-see list. The unassuming and unpretentious hour and forty minutes is a breath of fresh air from all the other things playing. It's got a perfect blend of history, laughter, and tears. It's by no means a sappy sob-fest, just a look into the history of ventriloquism and how it has affected Jay's life. It's a gas for all ages (though there are a few 4-letter words and 1 f-bomb (which, in context, blows the roof off the place with riotous laughter).
Even if you aren't a fan of ventriloquism, just marveling at this guy's talent is worth the price of admission.
All right, I've shilled enough (I know I should know better). Just go see the show. You'll be pleasantly surprised (and the monkey routine is a lot better in context than it was at Broadway-on-Broadway.)

Posted: 11/4/06 at 8:11pmIt is art. When so many shows today aren’t, like the show or not, you must admit that it is art in its purest form. And an amazing show at that.

Posted: 11/4/06 at 9:30pmI have to agree, this show is fantastic. I've been telling most people I know to see it, because I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it myself. He's great.

Posted: 11/4/06 at 11:47pmI too went in with a little hesitation about this production and came out loving it. It was a very good story with laughter and some tears. I really enjoyed it and if you have a chance to see it you definitely should.

Posted: 11/4/06 at 11:50pmI have tickets for tomorrow. I had no desire to see it after the Broadway on Broadway appearance, but have heard many people who hated it there say the show is great. So I'll check it out.

I'm with Horton. It's half-enchanting and half-excrutiating.

My favorite was the blackboard, the snake, the bird of death and Darwin. I loved every single puppet. Squeaky was the most touching.
