Posted: 9/20/12 at 12:53pmJennifer Holliday is a HUGE mess and I am not a fan of her singing at all! I have no idea how she won a Tony, granted it was ages ago.

Posted: 9/20/12 at 12:56pmI saw her do it. She was fun. Really hammy in the role. This was back when I still stage doored so I stayed to meet her afterward (I had just moved to NYC). She took over an hour to come out but when she did she was so kind and willing to stand around chat and take pictures with everyone that waited to see her. This was just before the Dreamgirls: One Night Only Benefit Concert and people were trying to get her to sign window cards for that concert but she wouldn't. She made it no secret that her feelings were hurt that she wasn't asked to be a part of it...much like she did about the movie. When she was ready to say goodnight she just walk off into the night to take the train home...not even a car service.

Posted: 9/20/12 at 1:02pmI realize she created the role. I realize she won the Tony for it. She needs to realize that other people are going to be asked to portray Effie- for Christ's sake- I still can't believe she did it at MUNY this past summer- I don't care how good some folks said she was- she is waaaaaaaaay too old to be playing that part now IMOP.

I prefer Patti LaBelle's version.

Although, both versions seem kind of offensive to what John Kander had actually written.
