Ms. Didion is adapting herself, with David Hare directing. No casting yet. The only question is, who could they possibly cast as Joan Didion?
I think Marian Seldes could do her justice.

Posted: 12/6/05 at 10:42amJoan Didion is a brilliant essayist. I've read a lot of her personal works and they are in NO way cheerful and lighthearted. She writes about what she knows- which is, unfortunetely, a lot of struggle and pain. I don't know who they're going to get to portray her but dam... that's quite a role. I wish her luck with the show, should be interesting...
chances are AndyF is posting above or below me...

Jayne would be a great Joan, but I think she's a bit young.
ETA: Iluv, you are probably right, and that is sad.

Posted: 12/6/05 at 3:33pmIt would undoubtedly be a downbeat evening at the theater to see this, but it might be uplifting too, if it's done right. The book was completed before Joan's daughter lost her fight for life and so I BELIEVE it ends on a slightly more upbeat note. I wonder if she'll stick to that for the play adaptation or bring it right up to date.
