Wow..."luminous and a sort of landmark."

John Lahr is almost as much of a wordsmith as Sondheim is.

Okay, I realize it's a pretty well-known show, but...he gave away pretty much the whole thing. Geez.

Amen, Plum. That's why I never read Lahr until AFTER I see a show. He's a thoughtful and enthusiastic critic, but he cannot resist telling the entire plot of the play.
And if he is reviewing a comedy, he will pepper his review with all its best jokes.

Thank God he didn't reveal the BIG plot twist near the end.

John Lahr ALWAYS gives everything always. His recent review of Third was basically a copy of the text...re: John Lahr's review of SWEENEY -- a Must Read

Couple of things wrong here... He gives WAY too much away, which I don't call good reviewing.

And the reason he calls it out for being landmark?... That was done to the same effect back in 1938 (yes, 67 years ago) in a little play called "Our Town." Audiences were asked to use their own imaginations to create an on-stage environment. I wonder what ever happened to that "forgotten" play?

Still, the man can express himself very eloquently. He knows how to write.

Wow. What a well-written review. Makes me wonder why reviewers aren't all this well-spoken.

Anyone seen it since it opened and know the current runtime?
