Just listened to "Bridges" score for the first time... — Page 2

I lost my Ipod so hadn't heard this in a while, but for a long time it was my morning juice. This post sent me back to the MP3 and man, that is some beautiful music. Shows may have great songs, but beautiful songs are rare. Saw it with reluctance because of the original material, ran back to Broadway for a 2nd dip before it closed. Everyone deserved better than they got for this one. IMHO.

I don't think "State Road 21" is so bad. Those of us from more rural areas should get a chuckle every time we hear "I had seven corn dogs and I think I might die". Why did we use to think corn dogs were so delicious anyway? I can't imagine eating one today.

I adored this show. Adored it. And only regret not having seen it more than the one time.

Like many, I wasn't initially drawn to it (despite my undying affection for Kelli). When I heard it was closing I purchased two tickets - and shared it with my Mom, who was the source of my love of the performing arts. Mom and I were both moved to tears -- gutted is the perfect word -- and held hands as we walked out of the theater, knowing we'd just seen something truly special. I still hold it in my heart as one of the most memorable experiences in the theater I've ever had.

Two post-scripts:

It turned out to be Mom's last show. She was diagnosed with cancer and passed shortly after. We listened to the recording together until the end of her days.

I stumbled upon a program on Sirius XM with JRB and Kelli, discussing the development and composition of the musical. I was fascinated to hear the background on some of his artistic choices and sat in my car after I arrived at my destination so I could hear the entire program. I wonder if it's available to download and listen to again?

This show is a treasure. I will remember and cherish it always.

I'm in love with this thread-- a totally positive and heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest shows to make it to Broadway in this century. Well done, BWW, for somehow keeping this thread so kind and loving.

Short story-- I loved this show from the first time I saw it, but naysayers would say I'm biased-- I too was in a longtime relationship (13 years and with a child) when I met a boy on an out-of-town job. He was 9 years my junior and seemed so worldly and posh (he came from California and had all his shirts pressed and in plastic dry-cleaner sleeves in his dresser). Friendship turned into a week-long fling. Then the job ended and I headed back home to my NY life. Should have been the end of the story, but we couldn't let it go.

That boy and I will celebrate our 25th anniversary together next February. As Francesca would say, "Love is Always Better."
