Kate Baldwin, you better look out. Kristin Chenoweth is not happy that you took her nomination spot. If you think what she did to Idina Menzel was bad, wait until you see what she does to you!

(Secret message to the Tony people: Kate Baldwin? Really? What performance were you watching because when I saw her it was bland, bland, bland)

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

kate deserves that nomination and that award! They nominated a woman playing herself, so I don't know how you can critize a woman that is at least, acting.

Kate Baldwin gave an absolutely lovely performance in Finian's Rainbow. I don't know what performance you were watching. As far as I'm concerned, her nomination was not shocking at all, especially considering Barbara Cook's move to Featured Actress. If anything, Montego Glover should beware Kristin's wrath. (Same with Chad Kimball regarding Nathan Lane.)

This is not the first time Kristin has been snubbed. She was not nominated for The Apple Tree. She was much more deserving that year than Laura Bell Bundy.

Honestly, I thought Kate gave the performance of the season in her category. I would hand her the Tony instantly. Her performance was far from bland.

I would also give the award to Baldwin.

"This is not the first time Kristin has been snubbed. She was not nominated for The Apple Tree. She was much more deserving that year than Laura Bell Bundy."

I would disagree. I didn't enjoy The Apple Tree at all, and Cheno paled in comparison to clips I've seen of Barbara Harris.

But if we're comparing Kristin and Laura Bell Bundy? I saw both performances (and I saw Laura Bell before she started getting nodes or whatever) and I stick by my opinion.

They nominated a woman playing herself, so I don't know how you can critize a woman that is at least, acting.

Sherie Rene Scott is definitely acting at the American Airlines Theatre. Sure, the material is semi-autobiographical, but there is definitely acting and direction involved. It is not merely a cabaret act.

But if the Tonys decided to give Kate Baldwin (or even Christiane Noll) the Tony, I'd be very satisfied. But I'm being realistic and keeping my hopes with Sherie.

I'm not a fan of Kristin, yet, I thought she gave a Tony Award-worthy performance in The Apple Tree.
Kate might surprise us all when she wins the Tony this year.
If we have to criticize a "bland" or a "stiff" performance, I think we should talk about Johansson's nomination. She did ok, for a Hollywood star making her Broadway debut, but not Tony-worthy. I understand why she got nominated though, she is a big star and she will probably attend the ceremony, which equals higher ratings.

I dont understand her character/arch. Baldwin gave an ok/fine performance, but she doesn't really do anything or have a great conflict or struggle. She arrives with her father, sings a song about Ireland, meets a guy, hates him/falls in love with him in ONE scene, sings a love song, reprises it a couple times, is tied up, then apparently is untied because she enters in a wedding dress even though we dont see how all this happened. I just found the entire show to be insanely dated and slow.

I'm seeing a Joan Crawford moment where Kristin volunteers to accept all the other actress awards if they can't make it and then whisks past Kate to accept the award in absentia.

So your problem is with the show then and not with her performance...

Exactly, her performance was fine. She didn't bring anything new/exciting/special. I do think she IS talented with a lovely voice, though.

and ftr, I don't think Kristen deserved a nomination over her. haha

I don't know what performance you saw, because when I saw Kate Baldwin in Finian's Rainbow I thought she was nothing short of lovely. The nomination is well-deserved.

Say what you want about the material, but this entire production was utterly charming and deserving of any accolades it receives. Definitely one of the biggest highlights of the entire season for me.

And it seems we're of very different opinions, khakis. There is no way in my mind that Laura Bell Bundy was superior to Kristin Chenoweth that season. Everything that made Reese Witherspoon so winning in the movie was what Laura Bell Bundy lacked. Now that's a bland performance.

I understand what you say, the role is not the best written role for a female lead in the history of musical theatre by any means, but it's a DIVA role and she played it wonderfully. I hope she wins, but if CZJ ends up winning, I will also be pleased.

I agree with Kate's defenders. She was wonderful in the show and I'm so glad to see her up there. I would knock out Montego and Christiane before her.

Montego was amazing too, I'd love for her to win. She really was terrific, a powerhouse and a truly outstanding actress.

While I don't exactly think she was the best of the season (that would be Christiane Noll in the also-expired Ragtime), Baldwin gave an incredible performance when I saw Finian's Rainbow. As much as I adore Cheyenne Jackson, she was the person I couldn't turn away from whenever she stepped onto the stage (well, her and Christopher Fitzerald's Super-Shrinking Shorts, but that's besides the point). A beautiful voice matched with what I think is actually a perfect role for her. It's sad that it closed so soon, but I am delighted that shows like Ragtime and Finian's Rainbow are so heavily nominated considering the amount of open shows to nominate from.

The theater community is well aware of Christian Cheno's straddling the fence between the gays and the holy rollers. Backlash? Maybe so.

Sorry guys and gals, besides having been in a production of Finian's Rainbow many moons ago, I've also seen quite a few productions. Without question, I think Kate Baldwin was the best of all Sharons (including Ella Logan, who to this day doesn't do much for me). I know she's up against the front-runner, but I, for one, will cheer long, hard and loud if Baldwin takes it. She's a gem!
