I heard about this a while ago but since then it seems to have disappeared from the news. Just when I was flipping through my LA CAGE playbill I read in Jerry Mitchell's bio that his future plans are choreographing "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and directing/choreographing "Legally Blonde." Could that mean it could be in the near future? Possibly within the next two seasons? I read the article about it a while ago and forgot when they said they were eyeing a Broadway bow. But I guess it's still a go.
Wonder who will be Elle...

'Cause I'm a blonde....B-L-O-N-D !
Legally Blonde has been tossed around for a while. It was rumored that Chenoweth was being approached for Elle as well as the title role in Betty Boop.

I took an IQ test and I flunked it of course. I can't spell VW, but I got a Porsche!!!
OK, seriously....let's hope they don't cast Britney. NO STUNT CASTING!! :)

Meh...don't see Chenoweth doing it...she was also approached to do "Young Frankenstein" for Mel Brooks. I just don't see her signing with this production...unless the score and book are dynamite. But I don't see it.
Laura Bell Bundy is an excellent choice though. Heard she read for Jane in "Tarzan."

Posted: 1/11/05 at 5:34pmI love this movie, too. It's like a guilty pleasure. I know it's not intellectually stimulating, but I'm excited for this musical. If the music is anything like Bat Boy, I'll be pleased. Updated On: 1/11/05 at 05:34 PM

Posted: 1/11/05 at 5:36pmI don't really see it as a musical...nor do I particularly enjoy the movie. And Chenoweth is too old to play Elle.

I do know that its being woked on. Larry went over to my friends house and played a few songs they were working on for him, and he said he really liked what they had done.
I really hope that Laura Bell Bundy doesn't get it .... shes not my favorite. But I'm sure there are lots of talented people who could pull off Elle. It's a shame Reese can't sing.....

Posted: 1/11/05 at 6:26pmOr Jessica-Snow Wilson from GOOD VIBRATIONS! She's great. I do have to say, however, that I am a tad bit skeptical about this musical. I can see ways of how it could be great, but I can always see ways of how it could be horrendous. I hope they do it justice!! I'll try to stay positive!

Posted: 1/11/05 at 7:53pmI'm pretty sure I remember hearing that they were writing the role of Elle specifically for Chenoweth. I think she'd be fabulous, but I also think that Laura Bell Bundy would be great too.

Posted: 1/11/05 at 7:55pmI could DEFINITY see Kristen Chenoweth play Elle. Maybe its just because of Wicked but I think she would be perfect for the role. She's very happy and bubbly and energetic. And her voice is so adorable and pretty.

Posted: 1/11/05 at 7:56pmBesides for age (which is iffy anyway, frankly) I think Cheno would make the perfect Elle in a musical Legally Blonde.

Cheno is nearing her forties...I just don't see her playing this part. Not to say she doesn't have the talent for it, because she does. It's just that I can't see her playing a girl in her 20s anymore. I just cannot see it happening nor do I think she would want to get type cast as the "ditzy blonde."
She has A LOT of stuff coming up for her...her schedule already heads into 2006 and she's already been mentioned for a role in Mel Brooks's upcoming musical of "Young Frankenstein." I think she will excel in this if she gets the part. It would be nice to see her play a more adult character and still retain her comedic flair...sort of like her character on The West Wing.

Just giving my two-cents here...
Kristin's role as "G(a)linda" in WICKED was not age appropriate for her either! Just for the record! But she did it... That's why we call it acting. You can get away with a lot more in theatre than you can in film or televison; that is age/look wise from an audience's perspective.
*no offense to anyone reading this*

Posted: 1/11/05 at 8:50pmPersonally, I am a big fan of Kristin's, however, I wouldn't like to see her play this character...Kristin was awesome in Wicked and YAGMCB, but I feel that she plays all of her characters the same...like she doesn't have versatility. However, she is SO gifted and I think she should try for roles unlike ones she has played in the past.

When this production hits the stage I will find a dark corner at Sardi's, and sandwiched between two Broadway luminaries will cry for an entire night.
I can stand by while a musical advertises itself as "ripped-off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail."
I can look the other way when Elvis musical is set to adaptation of Twelth Night.
I may despise such tactics, but can live with them.
But we have hit a new low after female characters like Nellie Forbush, Ella Peterson, Roxie and Velma, Desiree Arfeldt, Charit Hope Valentine, Eliza Doolittle, Julie and Magnolia, Dolly, and, of course, Mamma Rose are joined by the ridiculous Elle Woods.
