Thanks for anyone who posted regarding securing I love you Because tickets.
I am going to New York in May with my girlfriend. We are seeing Wedding Singer, I love you because, and one other musical. I have read mostly negative things about Lestat, but since it is out yet, I am not sure... the Drowsy chaperone looks good, but since it hasn't premiered yet, I don't know. The problem with Sweeney Todd is that i am unfamiliar with the story line and the score. What would you guys see if you had to see one, and had to get the tickets in advance? Thanks...
See Lestat. You may never get another chance.
(Also, I want to read about it. )

Sweeney Todd, I went in knowing none of the music or plot and loved it.

I guess there isn't much (any?) optimism surrounding Lestat. It is good to hear that there are people who loved the new Sweeney without knowing the story first, it gives me some confidence towards seeing that show! Thank you
LizzieCurry, why would you wish Lestat on ANYONE?!
Because if I sat through it, others should, too!
Sweeney Todd really is a theatrical masterpiece, but I hear that the Drowsy Chaperone is terrific. Drop the Wedding Singer and go see both of them, IMO. But if you can only see one, I've only seen Sweeney, and it's terrific, so that's all I safely recommend.

Word is that they've tossed out half of Lestat and they're frantically adding new songs and scenes.
This is not to say that the new stuff is better (I haven't seen it), but I take it that it's different.

I'd say Drowsy or Sweeney, but if you have to pick one, I would go with Sweeney.

Well re-writing half of the show in such a short period of time doesn't sound too promising.
Hey, he wrote the score in a week and a half originally. Maybe if he takes that other half of the week to write more music, it'll be GENIUS!
If you like Elton John's music and visually stunning shows, then go see Lestat. It actually has a lot going for it, contrary to popular assumptions.
Sweeney would be awesome too, I go see it in a second.

Well, the Elton John music was weak and the sets were good, but certainly not 'stunning'...Drop LESTAT and see SWEENEY and DROWSY...saw them both. (Sadly say LESTAT too).
You cannot go wrong with the Todd and Chaperone!
i had a hard time following sweeney because i didn't know the story or music. i have hopes for lestat because i've heard they've changed it a lot since san francisco (i also saw it there) and i really think it has a chance. the music was good and that's half of it. *crosses fingures*
Sweeney Todd is the best show i have ever seen. it's so brilliant. it will blow your mind.

I've also seen all three shows. Drowsy and Sweeney are a must! And since you're seeing these shows in May, I'd suggest you wait on Lestat to see how the show will turn out after the changes. Basing it on the SF reviews may or may not be the most accurate thing to do at this point. But seriously...it's not that bad. :)

Hell, you might wanna drop WEDDING SINGER. Word is very, very poor on that one.

Hey thanks for all the replies, I checked out an older copy of sweeney, I'm leaning heavily towards that. LOL As far as dropping Wedding Singer, I booked tix like a month ago... Drowsy does have those $25 tickets though, so I will consider booking that and cheap sweeney tickets $35 a pop...$60 for 2 shows aint bad at all!
