Posted: 9/28/08 at 4:54amI know people have said the cast are contracted until March, just wondering if anyone has heard if it will extend past its January 4th booking to date.

Depends on sales.
If it isn't going to extend past 1/4, we probably won't hear about it until more towards the end of the year (like in November or December).

They'll probably hold out 'til LuPone's contract is up in March.
Unless sales start plummeting...I mean the show is doing well but not phenomenally well...but it's not doing terribly either. If LEGALLY BLONDE could last filling up the Palace with around 60% (and a lot of the time even less) then GYPSY should be able to last through March. Especially because no new shows are really looking for theaters (or at least won't be soon what with the Nederlander, the Palace, the Lyceum, and the Helen Hayes opening up...and probably the Hirschfeld too any day now...)

Posted: 9/28/08 at 12:49pmI think Gypsy will do very well during the holidays, so I imagine they'll stay open until Patti's contract is up.

Is there ANY chance of it staying open after she leaves?
Bring in say, Christine Ebersole? Of course this is Lupone's Gypsy, but if for some reason it is doing remarkably well, would they close?

Most people on here would say "no, it's a star vehicle"
I think it could. It's a perfectly good production with great directing and a stellar cast. Who says that another set of actors couldn't keep the show going?

Posted: 9/28/08 at 3:05pmWell, March 1st is like the absolute latest for Patti, considering she has her concert tour with Mandy begining the following week. According to her performance schedule secitonon her wbesite, she has the last date "February 28," so I'm assuming it would end on a Sunday...March 1.

Posted: 9/28/08 at 3:16pmAll shows start to falter after the holidays. That's why the period between January and March is called "the January slump".
