Alright, I'm wanting to see Light in the Piazza while I'm in New York. I was just checking available seating for the August 11th 8PM performance and I can get really good seats in the orchestra, but that's a little bit out of my price range.
How good are the loge seats? I'm a freak and like to sit as close as possible, but I know loge isn't like that. About how far out into the orchestra does it go? Row L or something like that? If I can save myself $30 and still be happy with where I'm sitting, then that would be great. :)

Posted: 6/23/05 at 11:52amI can't answer your question - but I can tell you that there isn't a bad seat in that house - we had great seats in the orchestra a couple weeks ago but I'd be happy to see it from the upper level next time - the set is wide open and there seem to be no obstructed views anywhere, from what I could see.

Posted: 6/23/05 at 11:56amgo to it no matter where you sit. the loge is fairly small so it won't be bad seating. don't worry about it. just go asap.

Posted: 6/23/05 at 12:00pmPeople are sick of hearing me rave - but I honestly think it may be the finest piece of musical theatre written in my lifetime, which encompasses the past 43 years. You won't be disappointed...it's the most heartbreakingly beautiful score I've heard in years and Victoria Clark is perhaps the finest actress alive today - her characterization of Margaret is one of the best and most connected performances I've ever seen. Not to mention Kelli O'Hara as Clara and the rest of the remarkable cast - they all deserve to have a long and healthy run with this show. I wish everyone could see it.

LOL I take it you liked the show, apdarcey?
Redhot - I'm sad it's closing. That's why I wanted to see it while I was in NYC this summer. Hopefully it'll continue to get extended.

Posted: 6/23/05 at 12:11pmI sat in the center loge (I think the last row, actually) for The Frogs, and I didn't think it was bad. I remember when HenryIV was playing, hearing people bitch about how bad the loge seats are at the Beaumont, but I thought they were fine!

I sat in Orch C301 which is off to the side. Oddly, row C was the first row and it was like I was on stage. When I got to my seat I realized I was to the right and BEHIND the front of the stage (it comes out into the orchestra as a round stage). When the show started, I realized the staging is set up to have the actors play to all sides. I felt like I was up on stage with the actors.
I have sat in last row of orchestra before and have sat in Loge for Contact and it was fine. It is a relatively small theater and all seats have great views and do not seem 5 miles from the stage.
As for the show - it was a little more like an operetta than I like, but the music fit the mood of the show and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. I recommend it HIGHLY - great story, performances, staging and set design. The orchestrations and music are excellent as well. Lastly, someone else said it in an earlier post - Victoria Clark was really good in this (and I do not hand out false praise for any performer). She really does get into this role.

Posted: 6/23/05 at 6:15pmI have sat in the last row of the balcony for 'Piazza' and it's not bad at all (I'm old: to me 'mezzanine' means 'a partial floor between two floors','loges' are in the front rows of the balcony.) Anyway, it's a shallow balcony, only 5 rows, and I had no problem seeing or hearing.Go see it!

Posted: 6/23/05 at 11:50pmRow C is the first row?!?! So that's why Telecharge told me my Row F seat is in the fourth row! I'm seat 305- I'm not rich, it was StudenTix. The only other show I've seen from the Beaumont orchestra section was Contact, and that was a while ago (the Loge is fine, though, I've sat there too).

Posted: 6/23/05 at 11:59pmWell, I may not be supported much in what I'm about to say, but when I saw "Piazza," I found that Victoria Clark played primarily to the center of the orchestra and loge. The rest of the cast was fine, but perhaps, since I was on the side, that's why I didn't find Ms. Clark to be as dynamic as so many have said she is. I felt like she was ignoring the sides a bit. Just my opinion. I'll be ducking the tomatoes.

Posted: 6/24/05 at 12:10amI'd guess no. The show is closing on Jan. 1st I believe. That is not a terribly long run. I'd assume all cast is signed throughout the run.

Posted: 6/24/05 at 12:15amHaving seen PIAZZA twice--once mid way back in the 500 section and in row C in the 300 section (the center section)the second time, I'd say go for as close and as much in the center as you can. I saw fine from 500 but the second viewing from front row center was much more powerful. You really do feel as if you are a part of the play. And the detail in Clark, O'Hara and Morrison's performances are not visible far back or off to the side. I didn't know until I saw it the second time that Clark was crying on her entrance when she delivers her first line. I couldn't see Clark's reaction to O'hara in the title song from the side location. While I felt I saw fine and enjoyed the show from the side and further back location, the center location gave me a much richer experience.

Posted: 6/28/05 at 7:02pmwell i sat first row, but on the side, like the stage is surrounded by a center section, a right and a left, but its like a square, its angled, hard to explain. the seats were really good but i missed some detail in the backround and other side cause i wasnt head on. amazing show tho!

Posted: 6/28/05 at 7:33pmHurrah! I just got a gift of two tickets for LitP in the first row (C) on the aisle of the center section (301 and 302). I'm thrilled to hear that people have set in this area and loved it!
