Any hope for Linda Balgord to get a Tony nod for her Queen Elizabeth 1 in THE PIRATE QUEEN?

Well, there's not much competition.
Mary Louise Wilson and Karen Ziemba are locks.
Orfeh is likely.
Heather Laws probably won't get nominated, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Barbara Walsh get a nod.
I'd also like to see Rebecca Luker nominated.
But I have a strange feeling that Charlotte D'Amboise will get nominated.
We might be looking at:
Charlotte D'Amboise, A CHORUS LINE
Orfeh, LEGALLY BLONDE
Mary Louise Wilson, GREY GARDENS
Karen Ziemba, CURTAINS
Rebecca Luker, MARY POPPINS

Posted: 5/11/07 at 3:12pmI share the same feelings, Munk...I think the D'Amboise nod will almost be by default for the role.

Posted: 5/11/07 at 3:13pmI think Orfeh, Lucker, and Wilson are shoe ins. Linda might you never know...

Posted: 5/11/07 at 3:15pmIsn't Cassie considered a leading role (at least in the eyes of the nominating committee?) Donna won Leading Actress for Cassie...but does it all depend on what the show submits her for? Kind of like how Liz Franz was submitted for Supporting Actress in a play when she really was leading?

Though it doesn't look likely that she'll get a nomination at this point, I'd really like to see Heather Laws get recognized. Her Amy is stellar in "Company," and she's currently delivering one of my favorite performances this season.
I think it will wind up being--
Mary Louise Wilson, "Grey Gardens"
Karen Ziemba, "Curtains"
Orfeh, "Legally Blonde"
Rebecca Luker, "Mary Poppins"
Barbara Walsh, "Company"
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Posted: 5/11/07 at 4:19pmI highly doubt that Balgord will get a nom. I don't think she was bad in The Pirate Queen, but she certainly wasn't a stand out sensation. I suspect it's because of the material she had to work with.

If someone deserves a nod this season is Heather Laws whose performance as Amy stopped the show in more than one occassion. Erin Davie is also giving what I think is the most underrated performance of the season in GREY GARDENS and deserves a nod as well.
I doubt Balgord will get a nomination given the lack of PIRATE QUEEN love.

Posted: 5/11/07 at 5:19pmI agree with you about both Davie and Laws. They are both really wonderful in their shows. Again, I have a feeling this is because they have much better and more engaging material than Balgord.

I'd like the nominations to look like this:
Mary Louise Wilson
Capathia Jenkins
Heather Laws
Angel Desai
Elizabeth Stanley
Hey, I can dream...
I do have a feeling that Jenkins may sneak in there with a nomination though. I would be thrilled to see Laws recognized.

After seeing LEGALLY BLONDE tonight, I'm not so confident that Orfeh will get nominated.
Surely one of the brighest beings on that stage (which isn't saying much), but her performance (or her role for that matter) is absolutely NOTHING special. The attention she's garnered for the role thus far is frankly mind boggling.

Balgord's costumes should get a nomination. And I don't mean a general costume nomination for PIRATE QUEEN, I mean her specific costumes should receive a FEATURED ACTRESS TONY nomination. Hell, give them the win! I've never been so dazzled by a performance!
And I don't even know if I'm joking or not...
