Douglas Carter Beane deserves the Tony for his brilliant satire which sparkles with wit and insight.
I don't think satires get the recognition they deserve but our nation's best writers have been satirists, including our first great American novelist, Mark Twain, whose Huckleberry Finn prickles with satire.
Satire is the highest form of comedy. You are appreciated, Mr. Beane and please give us more plays.
I agree ! LDL for Best New Play or at least a nomination (instead of Coram Boy- please! ) and Douglas Carter Beane deserve a nomination too !

With a cast of only four, that fine play should be on stages all over the country.
What insight he has. Who knew Hollywood was such a shallow place? Who knew that agents could be so ruthless? Who knew that being closeted is less healthy emotionally but more lucrative financially than being out? BRILLIANT, Mr. Bean. Keep them coming! We would never have known these things if it were not for your keen insight. Thank you for enlightening us. You are a GOD!

Beane's allegory comparing the impermanence of a Tibetan sand mandala, created for an event and then whisked away, to an array of luncheon salads being consumed and passed was priceless.
It is this kind of artistic and humorous layering of thought that give the play style, wit and insight.

Congratulations, Douglas Carter Beane, on your Tony nom for Best New Play for Little Dog Laughed!
I can only hope that satire will be appreciated for its true worth and you will land the Tony!
And our oh, so under-appreciated Chris Durang next for one of his sharp satires!
It shouldn't win.
I loved it, but it shouldn't win.

I enjoyed LITTLE DOG LAUGHED and Julie White's performance. At least it was an enjoyable piece of theatre. It doesn't collapse under its own bloated overproduced and overbaked weight the way that COAST OF UTOPIA does.
And if the rest of the cast of DOG wasn't up to Julie White's amazing standard, at least none of them drags down the play the way Brian F. O'Byrne's unforgiveable work gives bold new meaning to the title SHIPWRECK in COAST OF UTOPIA.
After that, I will never put myself through another O'Byrne performance. Pathetic.
I am quite fond of LDL. so glad it got the nomination.
Simply brilliant. I only wish there was room for Deuce, too!

Don't be sour grapes, Sueleen.
I'm sure there's a show or an artist you liked that you can squeeze out a compliment for on their happy nomination day.
Obviously a lot of people adored Little Dog for it to get the nomination even after it's closed.

"Who knew Hollywood was such a shallow place? Who knew that agents could be so ruthless? Who knew that being closeted is less healthy emotionally but more lucrative financially than being out?"
Here you go, Sueleen. Here's your "closet" comment re gay issues.
Again, the agent cannot be pinned down as being entirely ruthless in this play. She plays it more like a big game. And she forsees the demise of the relationship, steps in to problem-solve, and is respectful and assists the boyfriend who gets left out at the end.
"I only wish there was room for Deuce, too!"
I'm glad there isn't any room for Deuce. I'm not going to change the subject though. I liked Little Dog Laughed, but I don't want to see it win. I'm rooting for FrostNixon.

I think I am hallucinating but did I ever read anywhere that this was going to be in San Fransisco with Julie White?

I kind of recall that she was going to reprie the play on the West Coast, too, neddy.
But if you want a real puzzle, this website is offering to sell tickets to the play at the Cort Theater THIS COMING JUNE????!!!!
Do your eyes read this the same as mine?
Can this be true? Don't buy them, anyone until you find out if it's true.
P.S. It seems it's not true because Radio Golf has tickets for sale those same days.
Little Dog Laughed Tickets for This June 07 in NYC????

It looks like some of those performances are selling! The best I could get for 6/5 was Orchestra Row O!

Ticketmaster is selling Radio Golf in the Cort on those same days.

I think that other website is a scam. How did you find it?
Julie White gave a titanic performance worthy of the Best Actress Tony she will likely win. The play itself, however, is mediocre and emotionally devoid.

I found that website by googling something like "Julie White Little Dog San Francisco".
Actually I thought the play had some touching emotional moments in the relationships between the call boy and each of his partners.
It had a good monologue by the "star" in which he spoke of choosing to engage in some male-male sexual relationships at summer camp (or scout camp) with the realization that at the same time as he chose, he was excluding himself from the mainstream of society. And the call boy had a good monologue about how he wasn't gay, that someone always had something on you if you're gay, which seemed obvious denial given his actions.
