Twice actually.
I was just trying to comment about the funny post about girl guides at Equus.
P.S. Dorothy Loudon is amazing. I wish she were still here

I prefer her performance of that song on the "Broadway Leading Ladies" DVD. The one linked to is just too fast for my taste. It seems rushed.

Posted: 1/23/09 at 1:18amI definitely enjoy her performance immensely on the Tonys(?) over the Leading Ladies one. It seems like a song that can be quite reflective from an older age, but when she was about two decades younger, I feel like that adds to the urgency of Bea needing to secure a love before it's too late. Even the speed of the song subconsciously adds to that, but that's just how I pick at it. In any case, "Fifty Percent" is incredible regardless, as of course is Loudon.

Posted: 1/23/09 at 12:56pmYou put your finger on it LadyRosecoe. I've never liked the Leading Ladies version as much because it didn't make me feel the same tingle that seeing her do it in the show made me feel. Her performance at the Tonys has that urgency and desperation and neediness--and, yes, the tempo is definitely part of it.

I vote for the Tonys performance as well.
And I love the way the star-studded audience eats it up.
