Has anyone seen this:

http://www.loadedtheplay.com/home.html

Anything more than stage-porn going on?

Thanks!

Bumping this one up. Has anyone actually seen this?

The only review of any kind of I've seen was on TheatreMania, and it wasn't so kind.

TM Review

There are some people in the world who say that writing stories, or composing music or dancing sparkly dances is easy for them. Nothing interferes with their ability to create. While I celebrate their creative freedom, a little part of me just wants to punch those motherf*ckers in the teeth...[tos]

Looking at the site, it seems like a re-tread of "Two Boys on a Bed", which I actually liked. One of the actors thanks his gym membership in his bio. I think I'll pass on this one.

The review cited is right on the mark.

It's a debate more than a play. And a tiresome one.

this production also got a negative review from Backstage:

haven't found any other reviews, though.

on the positive side, i guess there's meant to be more than eye candy going on ...

I thought it was very well acted, had great eye-candy and was an enjoyable night out. They debated about too many topics, though, and that made it drag a bit in the middle. 1 hr 40 without intermission. Could have lost about 10 to 15 minutes of excessive debating and would have been perfect. I would definitely recommend it though as a "guy's night out".

I was sent the script when I was called in to audition. It was a pretty vulgar script but had something to say.
I'm seeing the matinee on Saturday.
I'll let you know what they did with it.

I saw it. It is god-awful. It tries to be smart and witty but it is just sooooooooo boring. The audience was dead silent at the supposed "laugh lines". You could have heard a pin drop. There is nudity and sex for the first three minutes, followed by tired debates on gay marraige, lesbians, AIDS, and anything else that the playwright apparently thought to toss into this to draw it out as long as possible. One thing I will say - the actors are very good, and they do the best that they can to keep straight faces as they rattle out ridiculous speeches. And the set is absolutely fantastic. But you know you've seen a crappy play when you come out only remembering how great the set was.

I would just love for someone to write a play with gay characters that isn't about sex or self loathing and where the actors aren't required to get naked to get people in the door. This whole genre of gay work has been beat to death.

BettyBoy - so true! It's the same with having a "fat" character. They're always in denial or blah blah blah.

Sad truth is that the shows that get produced are the ones with that familiarity factor. Endless plays on old, old, old ideas where no one wants to be challenged by hearing anything new. The industry is so star/type/hype driven that the stories that are "unconventional" just don't get produced. It's really depressing, if you think about it. At least this playwright/producer has put his money where his mouth is and has produced his own work. Got to give him accolades for that. He wanted to tell this story and believed in it enough to put his cash up. Too bad for him it's getting trashed by the critics.

"At least this playwright/producer has put his money where his mouth is and has produced his own work. Got to give him accolades for that."

What you describe is usually called a vanity production, and usually one doesn't get accolades for that. Just the opposite.
But I see your point of view.

"Too bad for him it's getting trashed by the critics."

Yes, it is too bad for him. But it's not a good play, and those reviews are, unfortunately, accurate.
