As per Talkin' Broadway:
"The producers of THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING have announced a student rush ticket policy for the day of performances. Subject to availability, tickets in the partial views and box seats of the theatre are sold on the day of the performance when the box office opens, to any student who holds a valid ID as well as a valid government issued ID. Tickets are $35. Two tickets only are available per person."

Posted: 5/8/07 at 9:19amHow can there be partial view for this show? I mean, I know that the Booth has partial view seats, but for this show? It's one person sitting downstage center for the entire 90 minutes, no?

Posted: 5/8/07 at 9:22amThere are lights stationed by the box seats, I believe. She gets up to walk around for the last, oh, 10 minutes....like in Deuce.

Selling those horrible Booth Theatre box seats for $35 is a slap in the face to students.
I can't see how the partial view would be too bad though, but $35 is still a hell of a lot of money for any student.

What i don't understand is a student requires a valid ID "as well as" a form of valid government issued ID.
$35 is a lot for a student to pay. Isn't the idea of student rush to provide students with a seat that they otherwise could not afford rather than the producers unloading seats that could not be sold to the general public?

Posted: 5/8/07 at 11:58amWho says students are entitled to go to the theatre all the time at a subsidised price?

It's not the most expensive. Company's $36.25 and PQ is $37.50.
given the way most people I've seen in student rush lines dress (brand name shoes, blackberries, razr phones, etc.), an extra $10 isn't going to kill them if they really want to see a show.
eta: I am working a full-time job and and going to school full-time. So funds are tight. I have splurged on shows that didn't have Student tickets because I wanted to see them and loved them. I appreciate the shows that do offer it, but that doesn't make me love a show I otherwise didn't like (Company, TR, and SA come to mind). Those could charge $5 and I still wouldn't go see them. It's all in what you prioritize.
And for the whining aobut the price, see the other threads on entitlement. Student rush is a perk. Not a guaranteed privelge.

Posted: 5/8/07 at 6:08pmI'm gonna give it a shot on Saturday. It's already listed on Playbill, so my guess is immediately? I may go by the theatre tomorrow and just scope it out.
