#1ME, MYSELF & I -- review of tonight's preview performance of the new Albee play

Tonight I had the pleasure of seeing ME, MYSELF & I at Playwrights Horizons, Edward Albee's new play (who was in the audience tonight).

Firstly, I will not give away ANY sort of plot details and only comment on generalities. This was an absurdist play, which I believe should never be discussed until both parties have seen the production.

As a reviewer, I do not want to put into your mind ANY sort of expectations, preconceptions, or story details because it would ruin the experience for you.

THE SET was purposeful and executed well.
THE ACTING was EXCEPTIONAL. This cast is stellar.
THE WRITING is quite interesting. It's a Beckett play written with Albee language.

And that is ALL I have to say about the show.

I loved it, yet I did not understand it. I did not get what it was trying to say. Throughout the play I thought I did, but when it was over I did not.

I highly recommend you see this show. Then we should have a private conversation about it and exchange thoughts. (And that's what this show is -- the type of show where you want to go and talk it over afterwards at the bar.)

Sorry for being mysterious. Just go see it.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
