Maine State Music Theatre announced their 2013 season on the local news here (that's really early to be announcing a summer season, no?). It's interesting that Mary Poppins is available for licensing now since the tour is still out and the Broadway production is still doing well. Hopefully the flying will be good. I wonder if any other theaters will be announcing it for next year. Les Mis licensing has also apparently been unblocked.

The show is playing at Music Theatre of Wichita as well in August. Due to the complexity of Mary Poppins, I'm worried these regional theaters won't be able to pull it off well. Same goes with Shrek and The Phantom of the Opera.

Well for the time being I have faith that they can both pull it off. I've been surprised in the past by how well some big shows have been able to be scaled down to the regional-theatre level. I think Maine State is already talking to Foy about the whole flying thing (I'm sure Wichita is on top of that as well)

I'm paralyzed with happiness!
I cannot speak for Maine State, but MT Wichita is known for top notch production values and has a sizable collection of set rentals that are rented to some of the best theaters in the country. I'm sure their production will be of the highest caliber.
MT Witchita also has Betty Blue Eyes scheduled, so KS is getting their plates filled with Cam Mac/Drewe-Stiles prods next season. Doesn't it seem "early" for it to be licensed in the States?

I've never seen an MTW show, but I find it fun to look through their set/costume rentals as they are all beautiful. They're also doing Les Mis, and I really like the set that they used the last time they did it. I'm also excited to see how their Spamalot looks (heck, maybe they'll rent the London costumes from Maine State lol)
Oooooooh, coolio.
They're gonna have a chance to stage The Miserable Ones. I sure hope they just stage the darn thing and tell the story, as opposed to the recent trend of reinvention. In that case, Gavroche will probably be played by a dog and Fantine will croak from STDs. The general message will be: there's hope! Even if you were a whore and had it comin'! So it will appeal to those on BWW who think Rent's Mimi VD-ridden ass deserved to die/pass-out/whatever...for 5 seconds!!!

Lmao My Oh My. If it makes you any less worried, both theatres did it back in 2008, before the whole reinvention-of-Les-Mis happened. Hopefully both will keep it pretty straightforward :)
