I went to Hairspray tonight. I have not seen it in a long time and have to say it really impressed me.
Marissa was 100 times funnier tonight. I was very impressed with her.
I hope to interview Marissa soon. She killed me tonight.
Although it was not the same without Kerry Butler.
Way to go Marissa!

Well thanks for rubbing it in! I won't be seeing her. She's leaving 5 days before I see it! But I'm seeing Kathy Brier who I hear is incredible. re: Marissa Winokur

Marissa leaves the show in 2 weeks. To see the new cast, watch the Today Show on Aug 9th.

I was lucky enough, careful planning, to see it twice with the original cast. It was six months apart. The second time, the show was much better not it was not great the first time. It seemed more polished. re: re: re: re: Marissa Winokur

I think with Hairspray is that while most shows dullw ith time as the run progresses, Hairspray HAS gotten better as it runs because the cast is settling nicely and finding so many more little things. The details in Hairspray in Hairapsray make it wonderful and you discover something new constantly -- Penny sitting behind the chalkboard during the school dance making hand puppets, the psychadelic window shades in Welcome to the 60s. the are monor things and don't stand out on their own, but it is the little touches that make a show.

Yeah, I saw the show twice with the original cast- well actually there was always one lead out each time. The first time in December it was Matt Morrison out (which just about KILLED me), and the second time in February it was Marissa (saw Shoshana Bean whom I LOVED). Have to say I loved the show more the second time around. I had time to listen to the CD and get used to it. I didn't really like the score too much the first time and thought the show was overhyped, plus I had rear mezz seats which are kinda far away and not very comfy. It was total last minute thing though, a lady sold me her extra for half off. The second time I had a seat bought back in September, and it was just ideal. I learned to appreciate that it's just a fun as hell show with a phenomenal cast, and "the heavyweight champion takes the prize," so YAY. Plus, I was awakened to the wonder that is Kerry Butler, so another yay!
