Megan Hilty Handpicked by Parton to Star in Nine-to-Five Musical

Well, in the reading, at least.

According to the article...

Megan Hilty will star in Dolly Parton's theatrical adaptation of the film Nine-to-Five. Hilty was handpicked by Parton after she saw her as Glinda. She will play the role Parton played in the film when the show opens, "later this year."

"“In a couple of weeks I’m going to meet (Parton),” Hilty said. “I’m going to sing with her and I’m so nervous.” She said although she’s an actor, she’s still star-struck when it comes to meeting famous people."

Finally! Some news.

But shouldn't the director be doing the casting? I mean...you can't really argue with the composer (especially one like Parton), but still.

I am so happy for her! Megan is so nice and really talented, this is a great opportunity for her! And seeing as Mantello is the director and he's obviously worked with Megan before, I doubt he'd argue with Dolly about her choice!

Mantello was being pursued...nothing has been confirmed.

And who's to say he's worked with Hilty? Just because she played Glinda doesn't mean Mantello directed her. The director doesn't always return to direct replacements.

Mantello was there at Shoshana's last, so he's at least seen Hilty. And if he's seen her, he's probably complimented her and/or given her notes. She seems very well-loved in the role wether he has or not, though.

Dolly is no fool, I bet she has more creative control that most and may even function as a producer. She's smarter than most give her credit for.

Actually it's not a bad movie at all... might be a little outdated now though... I wonder if the story will take place in the early 80ies.

As for Hilty... good for her. I'm wondering if it's a coincidence that everytime a part is much talked about for Chenoweth (Legally Blonde, Parton bio), we end up with a subsequent Glinda in it...

I once went to see a production of The Odd Couple where they completely modernized everything and to be honest, it wrecked the show. However, when I saw it again at a different theatre, they kept the original setting and it was much better.

Sometimes musicals and/or plays just don't need to be touched up... they work just fine on their original material.

The article states that they intend to keep the show set in 1980.
