Though i've never seen this production, I would love to hear of it. I absolutely treasure my cast recording of it, and love the few videos i've seen. Please post anything you have about this production.
It was thrillingly sung by the entire amazing cast. What a top-notch group! I have to say that it was a little sleep-inducing in spots, but the score is just marvelous and it just blossomed in the theatre. You look at the cast list today and it looks like an all-star benefit, but I swear they performed it eight times a week!
I was only 12 at the time, but I recall being totally mesmerized by the false proscenium, to this day the most beautiful I've ever seen.
Does anyone have a picture of the beautiful proscenium that Ourtime992 mentioned?
I was in the show regionally and it was one of my favorites. It was fun for those of us playing ghosts running around backstage with bleach pens petrified that we would get something on our white costumes. A few people did and I highly recommend clorox and not tide.

This was the first Broadway show I saw. I was 10.
I was also in a regional production of it where I fell in love with the music. What a sweeping, beautiful piece it is. I am anxiously awaiting a revival, as I was about two years old when it was first on the boards...
This was the first broadway show I ever saw alone - I was so madly in love with it that I spent all my allowance savings going back - alone - the next day after I saw it with my family. I think my orchestra ticket was 60 bucks... those were the days.
I just remember sitting up straighter in my seat when the canopy of mosquito netting slammed down around the bed near the beginning - that show was so PRETTY. I loved the way everyone moved - I loved the set - I loved the costumes.
And the music - I bought the casette tape that weekend and ended up wearing it out eventually - buying another one, and then eventually a CD when I got a CD player... I still have it.

I saw the show twice on Bdwy, but as I recall Daisy Egan was off both nights. I would love to know what became of John Babcock who played Colin. As far as I know, this is the only role he ever played professionally. In Daisy's acceptance speech at the Tonys, she especially thanked John, which I thought was nice of her. I still think the rule is unfair that did not allow Daisy in the Best Actress in a Musical category. Definitely one of my favorite musicals.
Hard to believe that it has been 18 years since this wonderful show graced the Broadway stage. I saw Mandy P's replacement Howard McGillan (longest running Phantom)who was terrific. The music was haunting and lyrical while the final "secret garden" set was breathtaking. Love this show.

I loved this show! ...and yes LIllys eyes is just beautiful
Thanks in advance, givesmevoice. And congrats on finding that at the flea market. I only managed to find a Playbill. :)
This was the first Broadway show I ever saw. I was eight, and it hooked me; I loved every second of it. I've listened to the cast recording so many times since then that I know every song by heart. My favorite find at the flea market last year was a framed windowcard from the show, but the souvenir program sounds even better; that's a lucky find!
the program was actually the first thing I bought, and it's so so lovely. I'm too young to have seen the show, but I love the cast recording so much; I think the entire production was probably just stunning.
I scanned the pictures of the set and the costumes. I can't seem to get the very dead center of the set scanned (that's where the book is bound, too) though, so I'm sorry about that:
[sorry, I was having trouble with the pictures]
Thanks so much for the scans. It all looked gorgeous.
Thank you for scanning the program; all the pictures are beautiful!
